Sunday Church Series - Cour d'église

The American Cathedral in Paris. Located on Avenue George V, it is one of my favorite churches in Paris. I have attended services here several times. It is a beautiful and welcoming church.

C'est magique!

Many friends contact me for advice on what to see in Paris to make the most of their time there. For those only in Paris for a few days,  I usually recommend a smaller museum and then to see la Pyramide du Louvre at night. C'est magique!

Not all Paris café chairs are created equal.  These curvy iron ones were a nice change.

La fenêtre

This stunning stained glass window was inside a mausoleum at Cimetière de Passy. As you know by now, one of my favorite resting places in Paris.

Déjeuner

Merci to my friend Keri Ofshe for taking me to this lovely restaurant just across from Luxembourg Gardens. I had just arrived in Paris after a long trek from CDG to her apartment on Île Saint Louis and this lovely lunch was perfect. La Cusine de Phillpe is family owned and known for their soufflés.

Deux fenêtres

If you weren't waiting across the street for the traffic to pass, you might miss these windows above the tiny garden beside the Église Saint-Germain-des-Prés.

Jour du Chat Noir

Here in the USA, it's National Black Cat Day. Meeps and I wanted to share the love with a photo I took from a bus in Paris.

Since I know that many of my blog readers don't visit my Birmingham Alabama Daily Photo blog and therefore may not have met Meeps, mon chic chat noir, I'm including a photo of her as well.

Sunday Church Series - Royauté

While in Paris, if you're wanting to pay your respects to France's kings and their families, then you must visit Basilique royale de Saint-Denis. Often called the necropolis of French royalty, it houses the remains of all but three of the monarchs of France from the 10th Century until 1789. Of special interest, the cadaver tombs , two of which are shown above.

Très élégant

Never miss the chance to stop by the Palais Royal while in Paris. It's a wonderful, quiet place to sit and rest a bit...and people watch.

If you would like to see photographs from the Palais Royal, please have a look at my photo essay published this month at Bonjour Paris right here. I'm pleased to be a monthly contributor for their beautiful new website!

For my Birmingham area readers: I will again be teaching From Snapshots to Creative Photographs at Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church's Conservatory of the Arts beginning Thursday, September 10th for 5 weeks. Please visit their website for online registration!

La petite fille et son bâton

Each child who rides the small carrousel at Luxembourg Gardens is given a small baton. As they pass the gentlemen on the right, they try and slide their baton into another metal ring. As you can see, he kindly helps a bit.

Dans la miroir

Just to amuse myself, I always have a look in the rearview mirrors of dozens of huge motorcycles parked along the streets of Paris. Sometimes I get lucky. Saint-Chapelle!

100 French Strangers #84-85

As I've said many times, "You know those Parisians, so aloof and never smile!" Another example of the many delightful Parisians I meet every visit. This morning these two at Paul had a grand time posing for me. They were  hilarious.

It's been quite a while since I posted photos of my quest for 100 French Strangers. If you're not familiar, it originate on a FLICKR group and the idea is to challenge yourself to take 100 strangers' photos. The catch is that you must have some interaction with the person/persons before your take their picture. I started it on my Birmingham blog years ago and then in June, 2009 when I spent a good bit of time there, I decided to start the 100 French Strangers. It's a good way to help overcome the fear of street photography and asking strangers for their pictures. I am certain since last posting #83, I"ve already hit 100 but we'll just take up from there and move forward. I encourage you to try it!

Un souvenir

Rather than flowers that will wilt too quickly, we often see these fronds that seem to be palms tucked into the doors of the mausoleums as here, at Père Lachaise.

Sunday Church Series - La moto rouge

The red motorbike has a story, but sadly I don't know it. What I do know is that I have photographed it (or one just like it) parked in front of Église Saint-Germain-Des-Prés several times over the years. I rather like the idea that it belongs to the priest. Now that would be one great photo op to see him sail up to the church in his robes!

This sweet girl was sitting on her mom's lap outside of our café on rue St. Honoré. I asked if I could take their photos and laughed when Mom and bébé made the same gesture!

Colonnes de la pluie

I'm working on a new photo essay for Bonjour Paris. I chose one of my favorite places in Paris, the Palais Royal. I know the Buren's Les Deux Plateaux was and remains a controversial installation but for me as a photographer.... j'adore!

City Daily Photo Theme Day - Bicycles

I have resurrected one of my favorite photos from June, 2010, when I rented a small apartment in the Marais. This reflection is a boulangerie just on the corner from my flat.

Today, City Daily Photobloggers around the world share their photos of bicycles. Please click HERE and see them all!
