Sunday Church Series - Église Saint Séverin

One of the oldest churches still standing on the Left Bank of Paris, Saint-Séverin was built around the 11th century. It's worth a visit for it's beautiful palm tree shaped pillars.

A refreshing morning bath in the Pol Bury Fountain at the Palais Royal.

Today I join James' Weekend Reflections right HERE!

I am thrilled to finally announce that my PHOTOS IN FRENCH photo collections are now available as a resource for French teachers across grade levels on World of Reading. It's been a long time coming and hope that if you teach French or know someone who does, you will share this resource.

Paris Dirt

When we were in Paris in 2009 with Eva and Davis, we were lucky enough to meet up with our Birmingham friends, the Wilsons. They were staying in a very cool flat at the Palais Royal. Be still my heart. While the grown ups sipped wine and enjoyed the late setting summer sun, the kids did what kids do - played in the dirt! That white powdery "Paris dirt" was just the things for making roads and fairy houses. Ethan couldn't resist!

Les arbres

Opened in 1825, Cimetière de Montmartre is officially known as Cimetière du Nord.  It is the third largest resting place in Paris after Père Lachaise and Montparnasse. I've visited this cemetery on many occasions and highly recommend it.

Sunday Church Series - Église Saint-Julien-le-Pauvre

Located just across the Seine from Notre Dame, St. Julien le Pauvre is one of the oldest churches in Paris. Built in stages from the 12th to the 19th century this Melkite Greek Catholic church is far smaller than the many grand churches and cathedrals in Paris, but I highly recommend a visit.

La vue d'en haut

My very first trip to Paris in 2007, I climbed to the dome of the Sacre Coeur with my daughter and granddaughter. We didn't set out to do that but got in the wrong line to see the crypts. When I finally arrived at the top, this is what I saw. The whole city of Paris at my feet and la Tour in the distance. In 2009, friends Peter, Maya and Janet "persuaded" me to do it one more time. This is the photo I took in July, 2009. The view leaves you breathless in many ways!

The Best Kept Secret in Paris

I have found that the city of Paris' Cité de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine, is rarely on the To Do Lists of my friends visiting Paris. This is one of the most beautiful museums and can easily be added to your itinerary when you are at the Palais de Chaillot at Place du Trocadéro. It also offers commanding views of la Tour Eiffel from the expansive windows overlooking the Seine. The entrance fee is nominal and on free on the first Sunday of the month.

Madame et son chien

From the looks of it, this petit chien is being shown the door. Actually I stopped and watched for a bit and the waiter was having a really good time chatting with this pup.

Art de Yaseen

Yesterday you meet mon ami Yaseen. Today his art. The photograph featured is the piece I purchased, a self portrait. I love it.  A very talented and devoted artist. How special to have connected with him.

Yaseen

I made these portraits of artist Yaseen in Paris November, 2015. Martha and I noticed his artwork taped along the wrought iron fence that encloses a small garden and playground on the side of the St. Germain de Près church. We found several pieces that we wanted to buy, but there was no one around to give us a price.  We stepped inside the garden for photos and as well were leaving Martha spotted Yaseen walking down the sidewalk, recognizing him from a newspaper article hanging with his work. He spoke some English and we walked back into the side entrance so he could sign our work. He looked so familiar to me and I finally placed him. I asked, "Do you knowMeredith Mullins?" With an amused look, he said, "Of course." I told that I was a friend of hers and had bought her book, In A Paris Moment, in 2008. She includes a striking portrait of him in the book, as well as sharing that they had been friends for over 10 years. A very special Paris moment for me as well.

Les souvenirs

Still enjoying reminiscing about our trip janvier, 2010. We arrived to bitter cold, but the next morning awoke to Paris in the snow! As Mary and I walked through the Palais Royal to the Métro, we discovered something even more special. Since my first trip to Paris, les Colonnes de Buren had always been walled off for restoration. Amazingly, overnight, the walls were down! That's when I knew for certain that the Parisian Photography Gods really did love me. I have been in love with M. Buren's colonnes ever since.

I've been to Paris in November many times and there are always still some hearty geraniums gracing the balconies.

Les galette des rois

6 janvier, Epiphany, is celebrated in France with these lovely galettes made of the lightest and most  buttery crust filled with a delicious frangipane (almond cream). Epiphany is the celebration of the arrival of the three kings to visit the baby Jesus. Someone will get the tiny baby figurine in their piece and be crowned with the gold paper crowns that accompany every cake.  Of course as Peter Olson would point out, it must include a nice glass of champagne!

CDP Theme Day - Photo of the Year

Today, the first day of January, is of course City Daily Photo's Theme Day. The January theme is always our favorite photograph of the past year. Being in Paris during the events of 13 novembre, of course I had to choose this image of the Palais Royal. Je suis Paris!
