Meet the Artist

Olivia Clétienne is a painter of animals ( and apparently other things) and does restoration work in a small studio in the Village St. Paul area of the Marais.  I photographed her two years ago, but Monsieur Google assures me that she's still there.  I loved capturing her working in the open door of her studio.  She heard the click of my camera and turned but was kind to let me continue photographing her.

Paris Rouge - Le godet de l'artiste

I discovered the artist painting in a doorway at the Village St. Paul in the Marais.  Her rouge paint can caught my eye.  Tomorrow you will meet the artist herself.

L'heure de fermeture

Paris waiters keep long hours and I'm sure when the last patron leaves, they are ready to lock the doors for the night.

Well for now, but Monsieur seems to be getting the evil eye for lighting his pipe outside the Musée d'Orsay!

Reading In Paris - Palais Royal

Quietly reading in the parks of Paris is a gift that Parisians give themselves.  When in Paris, I always feel like I'm on the proverbial hamster wheel, with so much to see and so little time. An hour or so of reading in a park is a luxury.

I will be teaching FROM SNAPSHOTS TO PHOTOGRAPHS at Samford After Sundown again beginning October 16th for 5 weeks.  Join us!

Bringing Up Bébé in Paris

I'm currently reading Bringing Up Bébé by Pamela Druckerman, a fascinating read.  Although we lovers of all things Paris tend to see the city with rouge colored glasses, it's not an easy life in many ways.  My blog friend Nicola Berry, who writes a delightful blog called Growing Berries shared that with me just yesterday... parfait!   After spending three weeks there a few summers ago with my daughter Melissa and her two young children, I got a taste of what life is like in the big city with small children in tiny Paris apartments.  One perk of course, is that Paris offers such delightful parks where families can spend quality time letting the children run and play. This very chilly Sunday afternoon, I caught this family taking bébé to Luxembourg Gardens for an outing.

L'avion rouge

Today just a bit of Paris Rouge that caught my eye in Galerie Vivienne.  The reflection in the mirror reflects even more rouge!

I think this might just mean an entry in to James' wonderful Weekend Reflections right here!

Musée With a View

One of my favorite museums in Paris is La Cité de l'Architecture et du Patrimone.  I think it's one of Paris' best kept secrets and the views of la Tour Eiffel are showstoppers.

PTML On The Road - The French Rendez-vous Part II

Yesterday I promised a little shopping trip around French Rendez-vous in Cincinnati.  Owner Sylvain  has stocked this charming cottage with ceramics, soaps, textiles and fabric by the yard. His photographs of Paris are beautiful as well as  his wire sculptures.( See at left) I will admit I was very taken with the fabrics as you can see from my photos. Please visit his website for all that he offers!

PTML On The Road -The French Rendez-vous à Cincinnati

Leave it to my Paris travel amie Mary Gilbert to find a very French shop for us to visit on my trip to Cincinnati last week.

Meet Sylvain, owner of French Rendez-vous.  Sylvain a Parisian, was a delight, and Mary and I had great fun pouring over all the wonderful ceramics, soaps, lotions, and most of the fabrics that he brings to Cincinnati from France. His website  makes it possible for all of us to order them at costs much lower than you'd expect.

Sylvain is also a very talented song writer and musician.  As a special treat, I will share today his original song he wrote and filmed while he lived in Paris.  J'adore!

I hope you will stay tuned tomorrow for a look around the shop!

Over the Top!

So much for the theory that all Parisians show restraint and good taste.  I loved to know if there is a  French word for "tacky".

So Many Books...

ALWAYS too little time.  I always seem to be zipping by these stalls at breakneck speed. I should devote an afternoon to just browsing.

Le Louvre at night is magical.  I've been lucky enough to have had the chance to photograph it twice.  Today another angle.  ( There are NO bad angles of course.)

Garçon avec le chapeau

You met this boy earlier. I watched his dad chase him around Henri de Miller's  L'écoute,  by  Saint Eustache one sunny afternoon.  Here he is in person.  Perhaps he was a tourist, who knows.  I loved watching their fun and hearing his giggles as he raced around that day.

Les partenaires

I have been photographing the Sunday dancers on rue Mouffetard since 2009.  I've observed that the dance partners change often each week.  Madame here, is often my subject.  I think her partner was very appreciative, don't you?

A Toast

In January I snapped this shot our last night in Paris as we had one final bottle of champagne. Good memories
.

Last week friends Mary and Michele zipped off to Paris.  Peter provided the obligatory bottle champagne and they took this photo for me with the caption, "A toast to an absent friend."  Good friends.
