Sunday Church Series - Église de la Sainte-Trinité

The blue hour at its finest as seen from the portico of this beautiful church

Sainte- Trinité, built between 1861-1867 and designed by architect Théodore Ballu as part of the beautification and reorganization of Paris under Baron Haussmann.  This might be one of my new favorite churches in Paris.

Mary's Paris - Les sacs à main

My friend Mary Gilbert and I have travelled together to Paris many times.  Lately she's been sneaking off without me.  She has a point and shoot camera that she's been taking the last year or so, and I have asked her to share some of her terrific photos with you from time to time.  Today a great example of knowing what to leave OUT of a shot. I asked her for the wide angle then the photo she masterfully framed.  Bravo Mar!!!

Patrick Allain?

Peut-être

Patrick Allain Fleuriste  has been in this charming shop for 25 years right on the rue de la St. Louis.  Paris Breakfast and Shell Sherree have paid homage with their delightful artwork as well.  Proof that even in the middle of janvier,  Paris blooms!

L'envie bracelet

Those of you that know me well, know that I always wear two silver bracelets, sometimes more.  When I have visited Alexis in his couture shop in the Marais, I can't take my eyes off this armload he wears.  He's an interesting man.  Although he has never been rude, and always allowed me to poke around and shoot his fabulous evening gowns, he's always a bit blasé,  as if he has other things to do.  Peut-être très français?

Paris Rouge - La femme en rouge

Less than a block from our apartment, this window with head to toe rouge made me smile every time I passed it.

Some of us traipse up to the rooftop of Galeries Lafayette armed with large or small cameras to capture sunset in Paris with this spectacular view. Others  pull out their iPad.

La dame de la mosaïque

I will confess that I know nothing of this lovely mosaic on the premier étage of a building, near Shakespeare and Company. I welcome further information from my keen readers!

UPDATE:  Thanks to a nice reader, the mystery of the lady is solved. This is Polly Maggoo, a rather famous bar in the 5eme!

Le joie dans les jardins

The summer of 2009, I spent 3 weeks in Paris with my daughter Melissa and grandchildren Eva and Davis. We were thrilled when we learned that our Birmingham friends the Wilsons, would be there as well. They had an apartment overlooking the gardens at the Palais Royal, so we joined them late one summer afternoon. The grownups had wine while the children dug in the white powdery "Paris dirt",  played Follow the Leader around the Pol Bury Fountains and ran up and down the arcade.  Ethan found the roses in bloom and had a fine time throwing petals in reckless abandon. La vie est belle!

Only In Paris

People often ask why I return to Paris over and over.  Well today's photo is one really good reason...you just never know what you'll happen upon while walking down the street!  I almost walked right past this mom and her boy, but luckily I was quick.  I will guess that it was a photo shoot, but who knows!  I love Paris.

NOT a French Stranger

Eric Tenin, when we met in person for the first time in July, 2009.  Now we are
old friends and I always enjoy seeing him when I'm in Paris. Here he is with his ever present moto!

Many of you, especially you City Daily Photo readers and bloggers recognize this man.  He's of course Eric Tenin, whose Paris Daily Photo blog sparked the entire City Daily Photo blog community.  I give Eric all the credit for my Birmingham Alabama Daily Photo,  that I started on June 20, 2008 and today marks the 1,611th post!  The CDP portal has been down for a few months and thanks to Julie and Peter, two very dedicated and hardworking bloggers, the new and improved portal should be up and running today.  They have so kindly asked to include my Paris Through My Lens as well and I'm humbled, to put it  mildly.  Maybe it's only fitting that Paris Daily Photo was my inspiration to begin blogging and now my Paris blog joins this ever growing group.  I hope you will visit the CDP portal often and with the click of your mouse, you can visit cities all over the world, large and small. I promise you will love your trip around the world each day, even in your bathrobe!

Heads Over Heels

Tombées du Camion translates to "fallen from the truck".  I first read about this quaint and quirky little shop tucked away in Montmartre in *Paris Made By Hand.   I thought it looked intersting, and I was right.  It's full to the brim with odd little toys, vintage everything, including some medical equipment and printing press letters.

Now they have two locations. I assume the newer one is just as interesting.  If you can find this place, you'll want your camera handy.

17 rue Joseph de Maistre

47 Passage des Panoramas

* I've enjoyed Paris Made By Hand but have found several of the shops closed or no longer at the location.
I would call or check the web before hand.

Paris Rouge - SOLDES!

One benefit of traveling to Paris in January ( and July) is that the whole city is having marvelous sales (soldes).  The rouge banners at BHV caught my eye while waiting in line at the Sempé exhibit across the street at the Hôtel de Ville.

The Mattress Toter

If you've been following this blog for a long time, you might remember this scene, taken in June 2010, when I happened upon two gentlemen toting a brand new toilette home.  The whole scene was so hilarious, I must have followed them for half a block quickly documenting their journey.   In Paris, where many Parisians have no cars, home delivery of large items must be complicated and costly, hence... the toters.

Well what are the chances that I would happen upon another last January, again in the Marais!!! This time, a new mattress was being pushed down rue Saint Antoine!  And to think that some people ask me why I return to Paris, over and over.

Partenaires

Michel and Gisèle

I've photographed this colorful couple dancing on rue Mouffetard since 2009.  He is always dressed in such unusual attire that I sometimes forget to notice what she's wearing although it seems to be white most often.  I've had the opportunity to speak with some of the others but never these two.  I don't think they're married but seem to meet up each Sunday and usually dance together.  Maybe if I get another chance, I'll find out more!

French Stranger #82 - M. Schakmundès

Ha, I can hear you laughing and saying, 'Well V finally met her match in Paris and actually got thrown out of a shop for taking photos!"  Well that might very well happen one day, but not here.  Actually the proprietor of Les Abeilles, Jean-Jacques Schakmundès was not showing me the door,  he was giving instructions to the man who was helping with a delivery that day.  He was very kind  and allowed me to photograph his charming boutique in the Butte aux Cailles neighborhood.  Since 1993, he's kept over 30 hives in the Paris region.  We'll be back another day for a look at what he has to offer.  In the meantime, click on the link and visit his website.

Hmmmmmmmm

"Where have I seen that before?"

I spotted this painting by Robert Delaunay at the Musée de art moderne, and stopped in my tracks. I have a large reproduction of this in my home, and have enjoyed it every day.

Or maybe he's just bored waiting for Madame to finish her conversation and take him for a nice walk.

La Petite Enfant

You met these two ladies as they walked slowly through the gardens at the Palais Royal here.  I promised another look.  Peter and I pulled up our chairs next to them to enjoy the fountain, and this little one entertained us all.  I think she brightened their day as well as ours.

La Tour Eiffel - Un autre vue

I have always been fascinated with the structural details of the Eiffel Tower.  This close up is reminiscent of an overgrown erector set!  Every time I visit "her" I find something new to photograph.  Who knows what I'll find next time.

Paris Rouge - Pardon!

I have held on to this photo since last January. I took it on the fly at the Palais Royal....hence the movement blur. I apologize up front but I still love it eight months later so I'm going to share and beg forgiveness.
