Tour Saint-Jacques

The beautiful and ornate Gothic Tour Saint-Jacques, located in the 4th near Les Halles, is all that remains of the 16th century church, Saint-Jacques-la-Boucherie. It has been recently renovated, and I've tried on several occasions to get a good photograph during the day without much success. On my last visit, the greenish lighting against that fabulous sky just begged me to try just once more!

I'm glad you persevered, Virginia, and I suspect you are, too! What a beauty...

Good catch, Virginia!
«Louis» has never been able to get a good shot of this tower either when visiting or living in Paris.

The reason the name boucherie appears on the late chuch is its proximity to les Halles. The slaughterhouses were adjacent to the former church. The names of the streets around les Halles reflect its heritage as being the provisioner, as it were, of Paris.

Merci Laurent pour le français! Je comprend ! Quel surprise. :)

Louis, Thanks for adding that bit of history for us. I thought that a very interesting name for a church.

Shell, Merci!

It was under wraps for so long, I was beginning to think they never would finish. I photographed it in 1999 before I even knew what it was. Of course, I was using a Kodak something-or-other camera with film, so the picture is mostly faded now. I did take one from the corner of rue des Archives and rue de Rivoli on our freezing trip.

Although I lived near it for a couple of years, I never took a photo of it... so thanks for this, it is a beautiful tower, we are fortunate it survived over time...

That is a magnificently beautiful blue sky. Reminds me of a night sky that I saw in Arles -- the most beautiful of blues.

Blue and green always works for me!

Yes, you surely succeeded this time. I've never managed a decent shot of the tour, and it was under wraps the last couple of times I was there. Thanks for this lovely "reveal."

Great picture of the tour. When I was in Paris last November I took a picture of it, it was a sunny day, but it did not turn out as well as yours.
