Bless Peter's heart. He trudged up to Montmartre with me for probably his 100th time so I could explore a little more, and did it cheerfully I might add. It was cold and damp and a bit slippery in places as Paris was melting from their latest snowfall ( that managed to elude my lens), but I found a few hearty artists braving the cold, sketching away. I note the Greek on the back of his easel, but he's doesn't appear to be Greek to me. Any thoughts?

"It was cold and damp and a bit slippery in places as Paris was melting from the latest snowfall..." That, with this photo -- what a grabber, Ms Hemingway.
Oh...he could definitely be Greek!!!
Hi V ... no I don't think this focused artist is an ancestor of Aristotle. I think his heraldry is more akin to Jon Constable.
You know... in nice company I could make the tour of Montmartre a thousand times! :-)
Oh my, I thought he was a "she." At first and second glance. Okay, not a cute she but still.. a she.
A beautiful portrait of the artist at work in Paris Virginia.
I can not tell if he is Greek or not, but he inscription on the back of his "tableau", is Greek for sure.
I can make out some Greek words, and it appears that there are some older quotes in Greek mentioned there.
I wish you have a beautiful week and show us more of your great photography from beautiful Paris.
Costas
Hiker, thank you my Dear. You know I am not a writer!
Peter, I promise not to put that on my list again for a long time!!! :)
Costas, we we hear from the expert and it's still undecided but I was right about the writing on his easel!
Gaynel, well I'm laughing over that!
Thanks Nadege
Joe and Kathy, now you are confusing us all! HA
his chapeau looks like those worn in Afghanistan .. maybe he's Greek maybe he's French ....
Another great portrait, V! (Maybe he went to Greece to paint at some point and bought the easel there.)
C'est un mystery Virginia, not so the absolute fact that this is a superb portrait shot. I love Montmartre so much, I would climb those stairs willingly and have the best derriere as an added bonus haha!
Sorry to ruin your day, Virginia, but he's probably a tourist from Brooklyn. I'm still fascinated by the Russian and Irishman in the background.
Fascinating face!
I can't believe someone thought he was a female!!!
Une petite ressemblance avec Rembrabdt , non ?
Alain, incroyable!!!
V
Ed, HA, and you're right about the couple behind him. You nailed that.
V
Dear Peter trudged up there with us, too, with more graciousness than one could ever imagine on a sometimes rainy day! This is a lovely shot, V.

I think I have seen this man a couple of times there. Is he the one that uses pastels - if this is the same guy - he is a fantastic portrait artist !!!!!!
That Peter, he's a saint, isn't he? I will go with Greek, for the lack of any better information.
What a wonderful portrait...I wonder if he has seen it?
Place du Tertre! C'est manifique. Could return over and over and over again.
