Les chats de Paris I

A mini series always develops each trip. This past trip, Paris chats appeared all over town. I"ll share them in the coming weeks. Today's chat, was the only one we saw as we strolled through Père Lachaise late one afternoon. I think he had just had a little chocolate chaud!

 My good friend Owen Phillips (Instagram: owenphil333) , who lives in Chantilly FR, is an exceptional cemetery photographer. We often meet up when we visit Paris. I've learned to appreciate the details, such as this mausoleum door from him.

We often see mausoleum doors or grave markers with a flower tucked inside. I thought this lovely angel with the dried leaves was especially sweet.

Say what you will about Père Llachaise, the residents of Cimetière de Passy have the best view in Paris. Located across the street from the Palais de Chaillot, the view of la Tour Eiffel is everlasting.

When I meet with friends to help them plan their trips to Paris, I always suggest Passy if they have only a few days in Paris. If they have longer, of course I encourage Père Lachaise, Montmartre or Montparnasse cemeteries, as well. Passy is small and doable in an hour, and you can bundle this with your trip to la Tour Eiffel and perhaps the Contemporary, Architecture and Fashion museums in walking distance.

Spinelli et Sivel

One of the most unusual gravesite at  Cimetière de Père-Lachaise, has to be the resting place of Spinelli et Sivel. They died in a balloon accident in 1875 and are buried together in this beautiful gravesite. As a photographer, the coloration on the monument intrigued me.

Babe's owners loved him very much. The tender remembrances at the Cimetière des Chiens just outside of Paris will break you heart if you are a pet owner.

A cold January day at Cimetière  de Montmartre, we found this cross.When finding the link, I was amazed that this cemetery opened in 1825.

The Cimetière des Chiens is a dear little cemetery dedicated to much loved pets of all kinds. It's a trek there but well worth it. Cher Boby, much loved and memorialized with not only a lovely marker but the porcelain flowers that grace the finest cemeteries in Paris.

 The former municipal cemetery in Saint Denis, proved to be just as beautiful as some of the more famous cemeteries in Paris.

Paris' largest resting place, Cimetière du Père Lachaise, bien sûr.  If you are going to be in Paris for a while, this is the one you should see. If a short visit, there are many other smaller ones that you can visit.

City Daily Photo Theme Day - The Beauty of Decay

The grave of scientists Joseph Croce-Spinelli and his lover Théodore Sivel are buried together at Père Lachaise.  The two died in a balloon accident in 1875.  The sculpture of the two men, lying side by side holding hands is a much talked about gravesite, but I was too enamored with the colors cascading down the side to capture them.  The beauty of decay can be found everywhere at this beautiful cemetery.

I'm not sure if she's an angel, but I think this is one of the loveliest statues I've seen at Père Lachaise or any other cemetery.
