Kiosque des noctambules

Paris Mètro stop Palais Royal - Musée du Louvre ( Lignes 1 and 7) is probably our favorite stop. We love the elaborate steel and  colorful glass structure designed by artist Jean-Michel Othoniel,  titled "Kiosque des noctambules ( Kisok of the Night Walkers). An added plus is this stop is located at Place Colette just steps from our favorite wine stop, Café le Nemours. Win, win!

Temporarily Out of Order

Many of you have asked if I'm in Paris this week. Well, it was planned, but the massive strikes, including Metro, buses and oh so much more were scheduled to start today, so I made the decision to postpone the trip. No one knows for certain how long the strikes will last, but from what I've read, they won't even sit down and talk till Monday and who knows what will result. We hope to make the trip in February or March. Surely they will have all gone back to work by then!

In the meantime, I will continue to share the Noël à Paris photos from years past.

Métro ligne 1 at Place Collette is one of my favorite stops. Jean-Michel Othoniel's "Kiosque de Noctambules" is not to be missed.

Some Paris Métro stations are more memorable than others. Certainly this mosaic wall in the Saint-Paul-Notre Dame is an eye catcher.

Life on the Mètro

A violin player hopped on our Metro with his makeshift boom box strapped to cart and the obligatory cup for donations. This sweet girl asked her papa for some change to put in the cup.


I will presenting a phototalk on STREET PHOTOGRAPHY for the Shades Vallely Camera Club this coming Thursday, January 17 at 6:30 PM at the Vestavia Hills Library. The club graciously opens their meetings for visitors. I hope to see many of my Birmingham readers and fellow photographers there!

I think Mary and I agree that finding a Métro with an escalator is a fine day in Paris! Our friend Peter Olson, is able to climb Métro stairs all day long. 

Paris Rouge - J'aime, je déteste

As much as I love the signs and the fast and efficient Paris Métro, my knees detest the endless steps, the steps, the steps. This last trip, Mary and I pretty much figured out the Paris bus system and I was very grateful.

I like to capture what I call "Day in the Life of Paris" photos from time to time. Reminds me of the daily memories I don't want to forget.

Deux Amies

These two, most likely Americans in Paris, were having so much fun sharing a pair of ear buds on the Métro. They were laughing and enjoying their music. We were happy just watching. They looked up and one said, "Oh you're laughing at us!" We assured them that we were just enjoying their fun. It's rare on the Paris Metro you know. As we all exited and headed to the stairs, we asked for photos. Such a fun memory.

Waiting For the Métro

Coming from a city with no real public transportation system, I'm a big fan of the Paris Metro and bus system.  It's fast, cheap and aside from the stairs that I curse frequently, a great way to get around Paris.
