La face

When in Paris, always check their website for exhibits.

Thanks to readers Mad About Paris and Avery Sloan who shared this information on Mona Bismarck.
I have had the good fortune to visit twice while in Paris. Peter Olson and I toured a beautiful Yusuf Karsh exhibit there and in 2014, we attended a street photography seminar led by photographer Meredith Mullins.

Oh Pablo

November, 2014 marked the reopening of the Musée Picasso ,after an extended renovation. The Métros paid homage to him in many delightful ways. I like to think that my talented photographer friend Jean-luc Rollier's sense of humor that he often shares in his street photography, was my inspiration here.

I first met Jean-luc on Red Bubble where we both shared our images. That led to buying his street photography book on Blurb. When I was in Paris a few years ago, we arranged a meet up for coffee and he signed my copy. Since then, he's moved to the Brittany coast, so haven't met again, but I follow his work on Facebook, and we have continued our friendship there. Merci, mon ami.

Avant et après V

15 novembre the sun came out again in Paris, in many ways. As we headed to rue Mouffetard to watch the locals dance I stopped as we reached the Église Saint-Médard's little playground. I'm guessing this spunky jeune fille was showing either her brother or a friend how to climb a tree! As we turned the corner, Mouffetard and the surrounding area's cafés were bustling with Parisians anxious to resume life in Paris. Vive la France!

Avant et après IV

I awoke on 14 novembre and was struck by how quiet it was on the street outside our apartment. It was Saturday, so I didn't expect as much weekday traffic noise, but it was quieter than normal. I almost thought perhaps everyone in Paris might have been told to stay inside for safety reasons. I opened the windows and leaned out. I saw a few people walking, and a few cars. I decided to go across the  street for coffee. I observed a few families out,  some bikers and a few walkers with their morning baguettes tucked under their arms.

Later in the day, I met up with Genie, Holly and Verena, a blogger from Vienna who was visiting Paris as well. We met at Nemours for lunch. As I walked through the Colonnes de Buren, I noticed these two sitting quietly and talking. Their mood seemed to say it all. I will say, that by that time, the café was probably almost as crowded as usual and there seemed to be more people out and about.
After our lunch, Verena and I walked back through the Palais Royal for photos and were met by someone who announced that the gardens were closing immediately. This was a bit disconcerting as it was 3:15 in the afternoon. Since the weather had gotten very cloudy and colder, we said our goodbyes and each headed back to our apartments. Mary, Phil and I stayed in that night and had bread, cheese and wine for dinner.

Avant et après III

Continuing the series of images taken last November before and after the attacks on 13 novembre, 2015.

Late in the afternoon of 13 novembre, I walked through the Palais Royal as the afternoon light filtered through the trees, on my way to rue Saint Roch to join friends.

Avant et après II

Continuing the series of images taken last November before and after the attacks on 13 novembre, 2015.

On 13 novembre I had the pleasure of meeting Edouard de Bailliencourt, the Sales Representative , North America, for Galieries Lafayette for lunch and a tour of the beautiful store. After our lunch, I was free to roam the store taking photos of their fabulous Christmas decorations. I made sure to go up to the rooftop observation deck for a sweeping view of the city. The French flag flying atop the magnificent Opéra Garnier  caught my eye.

Note: It was with great sadness that we all mourn the injuries and loss of lives as a result of the attacks on the city of Brussels today.

Avant et après

As many of you know, I was in Paris last November during the terrorist attacks. We arrived on 12 novembre, so we spent almost a week in Paris in the aftermath. I've not spoken much about our time there but thought I'd share some images for the next few days, chronicling Paris before and after that horrendous evening.

Galerie Vivienne, one of the most beautiful of Paris' passages, was directly across from our apartment. I snapped this on our walk back home our first night in Paris. It strikes me how quiet and peaceful it looks. Built in 1823, it is one of the prettier passages and very well kept with lovely shops and places to dine.

The Master

looks down on one of his pieces in the newly restored Musée Rodin. I loved getting to visit the week it reopened last November. This small, jewel of a museum is probably my favorite in Paris. Merci Bonjour Paris for featuring my Rodin photo essay recently.

P is for Poilane

Take a walk down rue du Cherche-Midi and you will find Poilane bakery's flagship store. Several years ago we stayed in a lovely apartment, just a few doors down. Yes, we bought bread, and I was fortunate to be able to take some photos.

Rainy Night in Paris...again

I could probably fill an entire month with rain in Paris photos. We embrace it and accept it as a part of the city we love.

Sunday Church Series - Église Saint-Roch

Located in the 1er on rue Saint Honoré, the Saint Roch Church is a special church for us as our very favorite apartment overlooks the side of this church. Every morning, we wake to the bells!

Un Moment de calme

This sweet petite fille was so engrossed in her book, that she and her friend who was seated right behind her, were oblivious to all that was going on around them at the Palais Royal.

Sunday Church Series - The American Cathedral in Paris

One of my favorite photos I took after church services at the American Cathedral in Paris. I have loved attending services here on several trips. This church is beautiful and they are so welcoming.

CDP Theme Day - Where I Belong

For the first time in almost 8 years of blogging, I didn't have to think twice to come up with the City Daily Photo Theme Day photo. "Where I Belong" is our first of the month theme, and this was a no brainer. Here I am with my weary feet propped up on the fountain at the gorgeous Jardin du Palais Royal, my happy place. This quiet garden in Paris, just a block from the Louvre is THE place to come and unwind and people watch. J'adore.

Have a look at what all the CDP bloggers around the world consider the place where they belong right HERE!
