Yak and Yeti

Today my Eva ( who has been my Paris buddy on two trips) picked the photo that she liked best. She chose a photo from one of my very favorite shops in the Marais, Yak and Yeti. It is a Nepalese shop that specializes in the most delightful and colorful items, handmade by the women in Nepal. My blog friend Bob Crowe and wife Carolyn have shared their commitment to an orphanage in Nepal, so when I first stopped in here, I felt it was a business I needed to support. ( How's that for rationalizing a spending spree!) My favorites are the bright colored felted wool pins, purses, bags and so much more. I'll bring you a few more photos in days to come.

This very special little shop has no outside signage. It is very close to the St. Paul Church and on this corner!

Hi Virginia-when I saw Yak & Yeti on my dashboard I knew I had to read your blog and I wasn't disappointed - beautiful colours- gorgeous daisies and looking at the hanging tag - not too expensive.

How cheerful! Reminds me of a dress I wore back in 1969...

Happy and sweet! Sounds like a dear little shop. As in "lovely", not "expensive"!

YES Virginia
I've just made a note of the shop and the address in my France book, to visit next time i'm in Paris.

Gorgeous colours!
I'm from New Zealand and one of our greatest men Sir Edmund Hillary who conquered Mt Everest, built schools and hospitals in Nepal. It's an on-going commitment for the people of New Zealand to keep these going.

It looks like such a pretty and unique store! I love finding places like this, and its great support those who dedicate themselves to making fine handmade products :)

Bon marché !! I love this place. The pins are about 5e! I don't know what these are in the window. It's the best kept secret in Paris. I have found it several times. I'm notorious for having little sense of direction but I can find this shop blindfolded!

I agree with Eva -- beautiful photo of "accessories"

You are underselling your ability to find places to which you have been. I can count at least 3: Yak and Yeti, the purple restaurant, and certainly Place des Vosges!

My mother lived in the Marais for years after my father passed away. When I visited her I used to love going to all the little shops there. I remember a shop like this, at the end of a little strip of shops. There was also an old postcard shop which I could never resist. Even though my mother is gone now when I am in Paris I still go to the Marais.

Oh I'm delighted that this post brought back nice memories for you and your dear Paris. I love the Marais. If I could live anywhere in Paris, this would be my choice. Having a flat there last month was a dream come true.

Gorgeous, and a reflection of the Nepali people Carolyn and I have come to love. If you want to do something really, really good with your money, visit http://www.mitrata.org/ and lend a hand. We've been there. We've seen how the children blossom.

Bob ,
Thank you for that link. Maybe I"ve used the wrong term, Nepalese. Forgive me. I will go to this link now.
I trust that you and Carolyn have found the best best use of our donations.

Nepali and Nepalese are equivalent. They seem to use Nepali more of the two.
