Signes du Samedi - BON!

C'est toujours bon à Paris!

(I'm feeling very proud of my French as I ran this past Veronique, my ever faithful translator and
she said I was correct!!! Oh this is really big.)

Signes du Samedi - Au Vieux Paris

Au vieux Paris d'Arcole, depuis 1594 certainly lives up to the "vieux" in its name.  Located just a block from Notre Dame, I photographed it first here in 2010. It's had a new paint job outside but still remains one of the most charming restaurants you will find in Paris. This last trip, I was lucky enough to photograph the owner and the inside of this beautiful old place. I will share a small series during the upcoming week.

Signes du Samedi - Merci!

Merci, a wonderful shop in the Marais that donates a portion of their profits to charity has an ever changing wall with their extensive collection of letters of all sizes and colors.  Loved this message. It's sooo Paris!

Signes du Samedi et Paris Rouge - Interdit!

Merci to my friend Carla Coulson who spotted this boy in the bright red jacket  behind me, as we chatted over coffee one day in the Marais.  Note the sign has been "altered" by a clever artist. I would love to know the name!

Update: Merci  to my friend Sandi, who is in Italy right this minute and has solved the mystery. The artist appears to be Clete Abraham!

Signes du Samedi - You Are Here!

Parisinfo.com
Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau

I'm not sure at the time that I realized the sign near our apartment was in English!  Very clever and Mary and I couldn't resist being les stupide touristes américans and took turns taking each other's picture.  Now I look back and wish that this samedi I was right there again. C'est la vie

Signes du Samedi - Alain

I was on a hunt for these charming old signs this last trip and found this one in the Marais.  It made me think of our friend Alain who hosts Montpellier Croix d'argent - Sète canal maritime.  Don't you love the little moustache below!

Samedi Signes - Bonne Année Saint-Denis

When we made our trek to Saint-Denis last January, this banner still hung from the Hôtel de Ville.  Interesting mix of old and new!

Samedi signes - Bon conseil

Translation:  15 minutes in the hand, 150 years in nature!

I'd like to see more of these banners in the U.S!  From my experience there, France is much more committed to recycling.  Maybe one day it will be a priority here.

Samedi Signes - Bon!

By now you know how I love to visit Merci , every trip I make to Paris.  What many don't know about this store is that profits go back to a children's charity in Madagascar, hence the name.  One of my favorite spots is the downstairs area where you can find all kinds of hip household and garden items. There's also a neat little café overlooking their courtyard garden.  This trip, they'd used some of their terrific metal letters for the wall.  How apropos!

And on that note, may I wish you all al BON weekend!

Samedi Signes - Le Chat Noir

Everywhere I turned in Paris, I found images that reminded me of my sweet Meeps.  As we took the bus last Tuesday, I shot this through the window.  My dear chat noir was very glad to see me when I returned home! She and I have chatted and we both think we need to move to Paris!!!

Today begins a series I'm calling Samedi Signes.  This trip I had fun capturing old and new signs in Paris.  I'll feature them from time to time.
