La Basilique du Sacré-Coeur de Montmartre

The Sacré Coeur should be on everyone's top 10 list for your trip to Paris. Not only is it a beautiful church, but the view of the city of Paris is breathtaking.

Sunday Church Series - la Basilique du Sacré- Coeur

The construction of La Basilique du Sacré-Coeur started in 1875 and finished in 1919. The mosaic ceiling is exquisite. This last visit, I was the last of our group inside the church and took a shortcut to join my friends. I did not see the "No Photos" signs and took many photos of the inside of this beautiful place. This is the only church in Paris that I know of that does not allow photographs. I try to be very respectful in all churches and certainly would not have ignored their rules had I seen the signs. Confession over, hoping for forgiveness.

Sunday Paris Church Series - Basilique du Sacré-Coeur

While the rest of my group headed inside the beautiful Basilique du Sacré-Coeur, I stood outside the doors and became enchanted with the ceiling. It's a photographer's thing. Many of you will understand.

Paris At My Feet

I won't bore you again with tales of my trips to the dome of the Sacre Coeur, but here's the view from about half way up.  Being able to step outside for a few breaths of fresh air before going back and trudging up the winding stone steps is most welcome.

Today's post is for my friend Roniece who is galavanting around Paris and posted a lovely photos of the Sacre Coeur on her Facebook page today.

Sunday Church Series - Basilique du Sacré-Coeur

This is what I'd call a "postcard photograph"of Paris so I decided to make it one. It's also a special one for me because I shot this from the rooftop of Galeries Lafayette last January,  on my last afternoon in Paris.  A beautiful memory to bring  home with me.  Merci chère Mary for taking me to this beautiful spot.  A perfect end to another very special  trip to Paris with you.

Paris Church Series -Basilique du Sacré-Coeur

The Basilique duSacré-Coeur is one of my favorite places to visit. Sitting at the highest point in Paris, it allows the most marvelous panoramic view of the whole city.  This Montmartre neighborhood is famous for the artist trade which thankfully is not as frantic in midwinter!  Here, to the left is a lovely church that I regret I can't name, but stop in and visit if you're in the neighborhood.  I found this photo as a happy surprise recently and realized that it seemed a collage of what makes Montmartre so special.  The dome, the church, an artist or two and of course the cobblestone streets.  C'est Montmartre!
