There are so many beautiful churches in Paris to choose from. Although the larger, more well known ones are so well cared for and attract thousands of tourists, I'm drawn back again and again to the smaller churches, like one of Paris' oldest, Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Last trip it was within walking distance from our flat so we stepped inside a time or two. Whenever I revisit special places in Paris, I try and find new details that I might have missed before. This trip, the painted columns caught my eye. The wear and tear is quite visible, but I couldn't help but think how those knicks and cracks were caused over all those years. Saint Germain de Pres should most definitely be on your list.

Centuries of floor scrubbing, perhaps?
danke für die tollen bilder und inspirationen!!! liebe grüße und einen schönen sonntag von angie aus deutschland
It does see a lot of traffic, anyway. I think it lends the place character.
We loved the St Germaine de Pres are V. We were also amazed how a few churches receive all the notoriety and money while others are left to age sometimes not so gracefully. Saint Sulpice could tell a few stories too.
Dans certains pays d'Asie, on repeint les temples chaque année. Ce n'est pas le cas pour les églises, en France, où l'on a le culte de l'ancien, même s'il n'est pas très beau.
You have good EYES for beautiful details.
Thanks for sharing.
Nice detail, V! (And I loved coming here with you.)
It is a beautiful detail. That is a well known church, so I mistakenly assumed that it would be in decent repair. (And, Joe is right that Saint Sulpice also must have some great stories to tell.)
