The afternoon light streaming into Basilique Saint Denis, took my breath. The final resting place of almost every king of France from the 10th-18th centuries, this is believed to be the first Gothic church ever built. Located in the northern suburb of St. Denis, it's about a half hour Métro ride, but the stop is very near the church. This is a must see for return visitors to Paris or those lucky to have an extended stay.

This really is breathtaking, Virginia. Thanks for sharing it. The next time I'm in Paris . . .
Wonderful Virginia , I love how the stain glass window colours are reflected. Yes I am due a visit to Paris .
Dear Virginia,
I don't know when I have ever viewed anything so breathtaking.
Thank you for sharing,
fondly,
Penny
Spectacular detail!
The colors here are spectacular, Virginia. The best part is that they are subtle. Nice.
I love it! Like William spectacular was the first word that came to mind.
I can see why it took your breath away. It dazzles the soul.
That is - in a word - gorgeous!
I happened to visit on Oct 16th one year -- beautiful memorial ceremony with grand organ music on the occasion of the execution of Marie Antoinette. Funny thing there were no signs announcing the event. One of those times when I happened to be in the right place at the right time.
