Sunday Church Series - Saint Germain des Près

One of the oldest ( or maybe THE oldest) churches in Paris, Saint Germain des Preès is remarkably good condition.  This last trip, I noticed these beautiful painted columns and the wear along the base.  To be expected for a church hundreds of years old.

I remember being so fascinated by the paint in Sainte Chappele -- and I think this gives the same feeling -- worn through years of worship. It's a lovely shot.

Lovely detail, V! It makes me happy to see that this beautiful old church is still being well cared for.

I looked the church up on the internet and it is the oldest church in Paris. Parts of it date back to the 6th century.

"Des pres" should be "des prés" which I think means "of the fields"

When we visited here, I couldn't help but just stand and admire every inch of space for what seemed like hours.

Yes, that's to be expected. I'd like to see this church for myself.

Beautiful old church. Condition may not be bad considering its age, but when I was there in late 2012, a box was positioned just inside the entrance to the church requesting donations for desperately needed renovations. There was also a young woman pushing a baby carriage around inside the church panhandling for money. Couldn't tell if there was actually a baby in it. She was actually being quite a pest.

Une décoration qui est un peu passée de mode. Actuellement on a plutôt tendance à gratter les peintures qui ont été faites au XIX° siècle.

Expressions of art and design from another era V.

A really interesting composition with the chairs in the distance adding color and setting.
