The Long Walk Home

In June of 2009, we stayed in an apartment near here. Every afternoon we made the long walk from the Mètro and market, up rue de l'Arbalète and then up rue Claude Bernard.  Laden with groceries ( and much wine) it was a slow walk.  Melissa and I often commented on how much we missed our cars!  By then the children were tired too and most days, Davis had a meltdown right here.  It's funny now, but at the time... not so much. I believe one day I mumbled something about pulling the cork out of one of the bottles with my teeth, sitting right there on the curb, and drinking it!  De bons souvenirs.

Living in Paris - how wonderful - experiencing live as a Parisienne. Yes i will be doing this too soon.
I have 100 steps to climb at the end of the day. I might be moaning under my breathe as well. x

You are too funny! Yes, I remember having similar moments like that. Nice shot Virginia!

Virginia, I can totally relate to the meltdown and probably would have had one right there with you all! Love this story, the moral of which is ..... always carry a tire-bouchon!

Even though it didn't seem that much fun at the time, important is that you had wine! :)
God bless you!

But what a lovely walk indeed - and it was in Paris!
I just wish we could walk more around here for everything. Here in Suburbia, we have to drive everywhere!

Somehow...I can just picture you sitting on the curb, drinking from the bottle with bags awry around you...and Davis having the screaming "Me-Me's"!!!
And of course, your usually perfect coif a bit frazzled, at least one shoe off and your scarf...well...let's not go there!!!

Your photo captures the feel of the title so well. The slight uphill slope gives this photo great perspective. When you were walking, I'm sure it didn't seem so 'slight'.

Harriet, no it didn't, especially when we got to Claude Benard and it was a BIG hill to climb!

Chieftess, I'm LOL at that picture. It could have happened you know.

Leif, I only missed the car at that time each afternoon. The rest of the time, I was happy to hop the Metro!

Cezar and Leia, oui, the wine was the main thing.

Genie, yes the tire bouchon is all important but you must buy it there, not try and take one in your luggage, right? :)

Jeanne and Sergio, thank you very much!

Suzi, we all await your stories and photos. Have a wonderful trip.

You were a brave woman to travel with a small child, even one you adore! Actually, that curb looks relatively clean and inviting. . . . And why is it that the way home when you're laden with packages is always uphill? Still, hard to complain when that hill is in Paris, n'est-ce pas?

In October, we had to walk a street like this. Our apartment entrance was in the middle, so we had no choice, we either had to walk up, or walk down. I soon figured it was better to walk down to get the bus, then, get off at the top and walk down to the apartment. It worked quite well.

The memories are good reasons to look at our old pictures now and then, and sharing yours reminds us of our similar experiences. I am afraid that I have marched my own family around a little more than they wanted on multiple occasions.

OH you are a fun gal! Pulling the cork out of the wine right there...that's the spirit!!! (even if it was figuratively speaking!)

Happy Friday V !

Oh you all know how hard this climb was for us. We had Davis and Eva, but Davis being almost 4 felt the long walks all day more than we did. He was a dear boy and hung in there for our excursions around Paris!

You pulled a cork out with your teeth?!...Impressive.

and yet...a bottle of wine on the curb was definitely apropos at this point!!! Love those little grand darlings...but there's a reason they're "grand" darlings!!!

It's a lovely street. You sitting on the kerb as described would make a fine photographic opportunity for a blogger. Maybe next time, V.
