Sunday Church Series - View With A Price

I'd guess that many of  you have not ever had this particular view.  Taken from the dome of the Sacre Coeur,  it's a trip up that is not for the faint hearted!   I have seen it twice, once by mistake in 2007,  and the second time due to peer pressure!  This was taken July, 2009 with blog pals Peter, Maya and Janet.   Peter has concurred that this is the bell tower of  Saint-Pierre de Montmartre ( his blog post here )  and the small Cemetery of the Calvary adjacent.  If you've never visited this little resting place in Paris, it's probably because you weren't at the gate on the only day it's open, November 1st of each year.  I would love to have a chance to see it,  but Peter's photos will probably have to suffice for most of us.

Paris From Above - A Breathtaking View

I have climbed the 6 bagillion steps to the dome of the Sacré-Coeur twice.  I'm glad I took so many photographs to prove it!  BTW, I googled my brains out trying to find out exactly how many steps from the basement to the dome. I think Peter counted them one by one the last trek, but he's away on vacances so we'll have to await  his return for that tidbit.  Meanwhile, enjoy the view that  most of you probably will never have!

Sunday Paris Church Series - Une Autre Vue

Oh we've been here so many times. Today, just one more view of Paris from the dome of the Basilique du Sacré - Coeur . My blog reader Anne in Oxfordshire  says that there are a mere 284 steps ( I could have sworn there were 500!) and that there are 80 columns surrounding the dome and each and every capital is different.  I've been to the dome twice, and I can assure you that I NEVER noticed that!  Oxygen deprivation.... Well apparently this photo confirms it.  For my dear friends Peter, Janet and Maya.... this brings back some wonderful memories of our climb and the grand celebration at the "summit" where this was taken last July '09!

Les Portes de Bronze

Today's Sunday Paris Church series takes us up to the beautiful la Basilique du Sacré-Coeur. I love these grand bronze doors. I'm curious about the obvious wear at the bottom of each. I'm going to guess that perhaps many have used a foot to help push the massives doors open over many, many years. Please share if you have the answer!

You Won't Believe Where I Went Today..... To The Dome of the Sacre Coeur!

Behold the power of peer pressure! When you get four photobloggers together, the stakes get high. Today Peter and I met up with Janet ( DC Confidential) and Maya ( Maya Photography) for a stroll through Montmartre. We hadn't been at the Sacre Coeur 10 minutes when talk of climbing to the dome started. Since I was the only one who had previously made the climb, I wasn't too keen on reliving that hellacious trek. However, when the other three applied a little friendly pressure, I caved and showed them the way. Once we all reached the top, there was a photographing frenzy!!! I' m quite proud of my accomplishments and am now going to take a handful of ibuprofen and say bonne nuit!
PS After we finished there, we walked all over Montmartre, ate a delicious dinner at La Coupole and ended the evening by walking over to the Louvre and taking night photos. Have mercy!

P
Thanks to Maya for taking these photos as proof that we made it!
