Photo Month in Paris - Yousuf Karsh

If you love Paris and you love photography, then November is the month you need to go!  For the entire month, fabulous exhibits, many free, are offered all over Paris from the Grand Palais to the smallest galleries.  We didn't opt for the extravaganza Paris Photo, at the Grand Palais, but in one day saw three terrific exhibits, at no cost.  Today we visit the Mona Bismarck American Center, just across the Seine from la Tour Eiffel.  The Yousuf Karsh exhibit was excellent.  You might not have know his name but you certainly would know his work.

Ses photos sont un peu académiques mais il a fait des portraits remarquables.

Yes, I didn't know his name before, but almost all his photos - portraits - are extremely well-known. Defintely worth the visit!

I would love to see all that! I'm so glad you were there at that time to have the opportunity -- so fitting for a wonderful photographer!

I know him well. He had his studios here in Ottawa for decades, made his name here. Several of his works are hanging in the lounge of the Chateau Laurier, including his Churchill.

His brother Malak Karsh was just as accomplished a photographer, but used a different subject: the landscapes and the wilderness. They were both amazing photographers.

Actually, September if the very best month in which to be in Paris, for all the reason you mention for November....PLUS the weather is fantastic!

I saw an exhibit by Karsh at the MFA in Boston several years ago --- excellent portrait photos. Glad you were able to see this exhibit. Inspiring, n'est-ce pas?
