Another one of the locks fastened to le Pont des Arts. Lock it, throw the key in the Seine and you will return to Paris. I wish I'd known this sooner! Others say your love will never end. Either way, it's worth a try n'est-ce pas? In 2010, the City of Paris, heartlessly cut them all off. If you've been to Paris recently, you can see how effective that was. I think it is a charming way to show your love and doesn't seem to harm the property. Your thoughts?

Paris je t'aime
I fell in love with Paris in March 2007. It was as the French say, le coup de foudre : love at first sight. As a result of that trip, my photography took another direction. Since that time I have pursued a career of sorts in photography and dreamed of returning to the City of Light. November 2008 found me strolling the streets of Paris once again. My first visit I was so overwhelmed with the incredible beauty of the city, I photographed it as a "tourist". In 2008 I returned and I looked at the city with more of a photographer's eye. I wanted to capture the unique, the small details, and oh yes - the people! This blog was started as a photo diary of that trip, but I have been most fortunate to return to the city j'adore 15 times since. Each time I leave, I wipe a tear and start planning my list for the next trip. Paris may well be a moveable feast, but I think it's best savored in person! Someone told me that once you have been to Paris, you will leave a piece of your heart. I left mine right there, but I brought home some wonderful memories. It is my pleasure to share them with you.

I'm with the CdP. Cut 'em off. Cut 'em all orf!! The recovery of western economies will be locksmith led!
As you know V I love this idea and I know I will be back in Paris! It's gorgeous. Apparently there was an out cry recently by the people of Paris when the Council tried to remove...it's an awesome tradition.

I have enjoyed reading the messages on random locks, some of them quite expensive. Although there were locks which had been engraved, the impromptu feel of this message touches my heart.

When I saw the bridge, I only noticed single locks. Love the way these two are intertwined.
I think its a wonderful expressive way to show you love Paris ... maybe the city fathers would prefer graffiti?

Individually, the locks may pose no threat, but collectively, the additional weight could be a problem.

My sentiments exactly! And considering that Paris is supposed to be such a romantic place, I say let them be! (of course, Italy is pretty romantic too, and they cut all the locks off the Roman bridges and the Ponte Vecchio too. And more appear . . . love it—and your photo, ma chère!
Lock me up and throw away the key!!!! Taking one with me for the next visit :-)
I'll have to remember to bring along a padlock for our next voyage 'a Paris! Fun to catch up on your Paris blog after our family's 2,762 mile drive around the national parks here in za U, S of A!

I keep wondering if you saw any handcuffs on the bridge?
I guess I'm the only one who hates the locks! I say take them all down and give us back the beautiful view that we once had from the Pont des Arts before those locks went up! If someone wants to return to Paris, throw a few coins in the Seine like they do in the Trevi Fountain in Rome! (Better yet, save your coins and buy a ticket to Paris!)
I have to admit your photo looks great, Virginia, but I have a few photos on my blog that shows what a mess those locks make and a photo of how beautiful the bridge looked before them!

I saw the same thing in Roma, Italy, In Berlin and Koln , Germany, and in Barcelona, Spain. I don't know where the "tradition "comes from, but I find it lovely and romantic.
but I understand the city, maybe the weight of all cadenas was becoming danngerous for the fence..
What a wonderful find Virginia. I am slowly working my way through this blog and this photo really stood out. Bravo.
