Café Marly

Bienvenue á la Café Marly! I've not gotten any further inside than right here (c'est dommage), but I think there is a glass of champagne in there somewhere with my name written all over it! Once inside you can have a sip from a front row seat of la Pyramide ! What could be more wonderful, especially at night? Café Marly has just jumped to the top of my To Do list for my next visit.

The setting is without a doubt completely spectacular but the food not so much. Go for a drink, enjoy the view, and then get dinner somewhere else!

I remember when you took this photo; I guess it was near closing time. In general, we hardly missed the occasion of a glass of champagne!

What a marvelous place this must be. It has all the earmarks of that fab place in Michigan on Mackinac Island. A meal there is a dining experience. Though I suppose it doesn't have the same glitz and atmosphere but as I recall it was decent. lol

When you find that glass with your name on it, Virginia, this time around my glass won't be next to it ~ but hopefully soon!! The lighting and atmosphere of your photo is so warm and inviting, I want to walk right into it.

Shell, I would love that!

Peter,
Actually I took this same shot both times we were there at night! THey looked almost the same. I think I got braver here and went up the stairs! And yes, we have enjoyed many glasses!

Abe,
I'll let you know how the view is if I get inside.

Anne,
Thanks for the tip although I had already decided it is out of my budget to dine there.

I've only sneaked in to use the restroom. I did TRY to get a glass of wine there once -- I sat & sat & sat on the balcony overlooking the courtyard, but no one ever came to take my order. So off I skipped.

If this restaurant has a balcony overlooking the Pyramide, then my girlfriend and I lucked out on our Paris trip in 1999. We stumbled upon the place with beginner's dumb luck. Your photo makes me want to try dining inside as well....c'est très élégant.

I must take Richard there. Shall we make a date for sometime this spring and reserve the balcony for all of your followers..........

I don't recall even seeing this, but then, I don't usually enter the Louvre from that entrance.
We had to give up on our buddy passes and got a flight with Air France. Also, we must return on 8 Janvier, as the apartment is already taken from 9 Janvier. I suppose that means we'll miss you again.

I agree with Anne - just go for a drink and people watch!

You've really captured Marly well here! Love the vaulted ceiling. Count me among those who suggest just getting a drink. When I ate dinner there a few years ago it was expensive and forgettable (well, I remember that there was a table of models near us).

Oh my gosh, I'm not dressed.

I would love to enter as well... was this once a cathedral... Just amazing. My guess is that just writing your name all over that glass costs a fortune... but I've a feeling the experience would be well worth the price of admission.

Now this place and that glass of champagne would have my name on it too, Virginia. How gorgeous it is.

Wait. This is inside the Louvre? It's a room in the Louvre? With windows overlooking the courtyard?
