Waiting in Paris - Ma Bourgogne

Mid afternoon, things get a little slow at the cafés.  Monsieur was killing time till the dinner guests started arriving at Ma Bourgogne.

The Sofa Toters

This is the third photo in what has become a little Toter Series ( and I didn't even try to translate that into French.)  The first some of you will remember, were the Toliette Toters, then we had the Mattress Toter.

As Mary and I sat sipping our wine after a very long afternoon at Père Lachaise, these three guys paraded right in front of us. There was a Métro just down the street. SURELY they didn't try that!

Deal

In the warmer months, there are always card and chess games going around the pavilions in Luxembourg Gardens. I love watching the men, of different ages and nationalities, share time together doing what they love to do.

Librairie des Archives

Located in the Marais, the outside caught my eye before the book filled interior!  It stocks books dedicated to art and artists of the 20th Century. Maybe one day I'll have more time than I did this day, and can step inside for browse.

Le ciel rose

When I tried to warm up this gray photo, look what happened.  I"m not a fan of really souped up images but I thought this brought out the pink in sky at sunset.

Bordure, bordure et plus bordure!

I promised more photos of Ultramod Mercerie. Today a little corner crammed full of trims and fringes.  I could have stayed there forever. An amazing little shop.

Place Dauphine

We have King Henri IV to thank for this pretty little place, constructed in 1607.  Located just off the Pont Neuf on Île de la Cité, it is a quiet little spot which I have found almost empty whenever I've walked passed.

Grand-père et moi

I think this little girl was lucky enough to have her grand-père join her for a spin around the ice rink at the Hôtel de Ville.  From the looks of her coat and pants, I think she might have taken a spill or two!

Sunday Church Series - Église du Royale Val-de-Grâce

Built in the middle of the 17th century by Queen Anne of Austria, the monastery was converted into a military hospital adjoining the church after the Revolution.  This beautiful Baroque dome, designed by Jacque Lemercier.

The view from our apartment windows, the summer of 2009.  I photographed this church in every light. This was right after an afternoon shower.

Le réflexion

You must first understand the pure joy that Mary and I experienced when we looked up from lunch this Sunday and discovered the rain that was forecasted to last ALL DAY,  had lifted and the SUN was actually shining for the first time since we had arrived in Paris!!!! We paid the bill and headed out to photograph everything possible under the blue skies. After the Palais Royal, of course the Louvre. Here puddles provided my inspiration for James' Weekend Reflections!

Ultramod Mercerie

Ahhh, Ultramod Mercerie, a photographer's buffet for sure.  Mary took me to this treasure trove late one afternoon after a long day,  and I was pretty tired, but took one look at the window and perked right up.

The mercerie has every imaginable ribbon, thread, button, trim, fringe etc. stacked to the ceiling.  A step back in time to somewhere between 1860-1880.  The family finally sold it in 1990. Today I'm fairly certain that it looks very much as it did when they opened. The old wooden drawers and shelves make it even more charming.  Across the street is their vintage hat shop. We'll visit it another day.

Sunday Church Series - Voilà

Completed in 1641, the Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis church was in serious need of some restoration work.  When we visited in January 2012, the front facade was covered.  What a nice surprise to see the work completed when we passed last month.  The stonework has been cleaned and now you can really see the marvelous details.  Of course the new choice of rouge for the doors pleased me very much indeed!

Watching the street crepe vendors is fascinating. They've perfected the technique. I think that little paddle helps!  Pass the Nutella svp!
