A Little Intimidating

Last summer while trying to get to the Musée Rodin, we got caught up in a rowdy little Paris demonstration. Quelle surprise! You can't be there long without seeing or hearing one. The gendarmerie were out in full force, and I think just their presence kept things orderly. I turned around and snapped this young boy scurrying past them as fast as he could. I know just how he felt!

Madame, just HOW do you know how that little guy felt? Were you a protester back in the 60's..."Bra-Burning Virg" who knew?

Perhaps he thought they were after him for skipping school.

MadaboutParis,
Non, I was right in front of him crossing that street. Those guys with the shields gave me the willies too!
Bra burner Virg? That'll be the day!! :)

As a soixante-huitard, I know exactly how this little guy feels! I'm sure those guys are trained to look as fierce as possible and to never smile.

Funny...I didn't notice the shields til you mentioned the protest..I saw the soldiers and immediately thought that this photo looked like it could have been taken around WWII...

Superb! What a shot and what a face. I love this - the toughness of the police and the innocence of the child. A keeper, Virginia.

No no no ... the soldiers are not much older than the lad. Look again at their faces. Take away the uniforms and the shields and the caps, and they are ordinary young men. The uniforms and the shields etc represent US the old way, trying to keep control of the strings.

Excellent photojournalism shot!

Our lunch near Saint Chapelle was interrupted by unruly demonstrators. One selfish protester lunged into the outdoor cafe seating area where we were sitting and proceeded to upset the tables and my promme frites. Before I could take charge and demand repayment from the punk, the police jumped in protecting us cafe patrons. I've learned to detest protesters.

This should be in a LIFE mag equivalent... or your photo-book on Paree. :)
