Pétanque - Les Spectateurs

It is really no secret that photographing the pétanque players in Luxembourg Gardens last summer was one of my favorite pastimes, but I found the specateurs just as interesting! This next trip, I plan to go right back, pull up a chair and hopefully make some new friends !

This is when we say "This looks so French!" :)

Perhaps you can join the game, Virginia!

You need a lot of leisure time to play the pétanque. To just watch it is I believe the real proof that you have "nothing" to do! Often what we are longing for! Nicely illustrated!

Too bad we can't tell the chairs those Frenchmen are sitting in are as green as the ones in yesterday's post!

Well I've corrected the text! Don't know what happened there!

Ginnie,
The older gentlemen almost seemed to "dress" for the occasion with nice jackets on.

Shell,
It's not a game for amateurs although I did play it in the countryside last summer. It's great fun. I'm out of my league with these men!

Peter,
HA! You are right about that. Lots of time on their hands and I always wondered where the ladies were. Perhaps they sent the men to the gardens so they could shop? :)

Francine,
Oui, vert!

Virg...I think that you should skip those petanque potatoes and make nice with the "stretching man" in the upper center of the first photo...nice buns!

Mar,
I just spewed my coffee! Non, don't like his outfit. Maybe the gray haired guy in the top photo? :)

And not a glass of wine in sight.

Starman,
Oui, that is definitely what's missing here! :)

Hi Virginia,
In the Willy Ronis expo going on in La Monnaie de Paris, there is a wonderful petanque player photo, just unbelievable... you may want to stop in there if you have time, the expo is brilliant.

Sent you an e-mail, will be around Paris for mid June, and not working for the first week of your trip here, so it would be great if we could meet up somewhere...

Happy packing...
