Quiet Corner of Paris - Place Dauphine

Place Dauphine, located on Ile de la Cité, is a small, quiet square. Surrounded by a few cafés, I always make a point to stop by. Once or twice I've found some pétanque players but most of the time, it looks just like this. I almost hesitated to share this info so as to keep it on the down low, but wanted you to have the pleasure as well.

Les géraniums

Instead of buying scarves in Paris, I need to be loading up on whatever the fertilizer is they use. The middle of NOVEMBER and the geraniums at this window and all around town are still knockouts. This particular spot on Place Dauphine never disappoints, year after year.

Pétanque Place Dauphine

I have photographed the pétanque players many many times, mostly at Luxembourg Gardens. This trip through the lovely and quiet Place Dauphine, I caught some players there for the first time.

Pétanque à Place Dauphine

Through the Parisian grapevine I have heard that there are often pétanque players at Place Dauphine. It's no secret that I've been enamored with these guys at Luxembourg Gardens since 2009. This last visit, I finally found this nice group of men, young and old at Place Dauphine. This player was most accommodating. Merci, Monsieur!

Always Be Ready

When in Paris, you never know what you will walk up and find. As we made our way through the usually quiet Place Dauphine, I spotted this mime having a casual conversation with two women. Only in Paris!

Un endriot tranquille

Place Dauphine, just across from the Pont Neuf, is always a quiet place to stop after a long day of walking. In the background you will see the equestrian statue of Henry IV of France overlooking the pont.

Mors Doré

All too often I find myself in Paris on what I call the Paris fast track. We are always so anxious to see it all, eat and drink it all, but more than that, shoot it all, that we don't have time to sit and soak up Paris. This last trip while spending a day alone,  to wander and and explore, late in the afternoon I sought the small, quiet place Dauphine. This afternoon I was totally alone there. I'd walked a lot, so I found a bench, took a deep breath, and just soaked up the moment. Mors Doré caught my eye, are you surprised?  When I returned home and found this image I Googled it and alas, it was in French ( the very idea!) so I sought Peter's help. He tells me it's a book binding shop. The lagniappe is the man in the upper window that I just discovered.

Place Dauphine

We have King Henri IV to thank for this pretty little place, constructed in 1607.  Located just off the Pont Neuf on Île de la Cité, it is a quiet little spot which I have found almost empty whenever I've walked passed.

Place Dauphine

Located on Île de la Cité, Place Dauphine is an historical and lovely spot.

And we have a winner from yesterday's What Is It? Where Is It?
Kim from Seattle Daily Photo, and L'eoprnn were the first to correctly name the dome of the Sacre Coèur and what it was.  Thank you all for entering and now when you're in Paris, you MUST climb the endless stepsn to the dome. If I can do it twice, you can too.
