Sunday Paris Church Series - Une Autre Vue

Oh we've been here so many times. Today, just one more view of Paris from the dome of the Basilique du Sacré - Coeur . My blog reader Anne in Oxfordshire  says that there are a mere 284 steps ( I could have sworn there were 500!) and that there are 80 columns surrounding the dome and each and every capital is different.  I've been to the dome twice, and I can assure you that I NEVER noticed that!  Oxygen deprivation.... Well apparently this photo confirms it.  For my dear friends Peter, Janet and Maya.... this brings back some wonderful memories of our climb and the grand celebration at the "summit" where this was taken last July '09!

I never tire of views of Sacré-Coeur... of, in, or from. I did not know that each of the capitals is different, and there are 80?

Great view and shot.

Oh V! I wish I had been there to climb with you! Magnificent view and fantastic shot -- the detail of each capital is parfait! Definitely added to "the list".

I commend you times two, V—for climbing up there and for taking this awesome shot! Glad to know how many steps too. If I can make it to the top of the Duomo (463 steps), I'm definitely going up here next time.

Hello Virginia .. Thank you for the link... I have tried to find a link to say how many steps from up to the Dome itself .. if you read this, it says over two hundred...

I think I said about 234..this is once you are at Basilica itself. Then the climb up.

Well your photo proves Anne is right, so we don't have to climb the ??? steps again! (Already 16 months ago!!! Time passes!)

I am getting in shape for this climb... the staircase at 42nd St/Times Sq subway is under repair AND so is the other entrance's escalator .. its only working side goes down.. stupid MTA could reverse it but no .. it remains only functional for going down while the staircase next to it is used for both up and down transit riders ... ah so I am one of the ones climbing up each morning and amazingly its getting easier I no longer need oxygen when I get to the street

It was 500 stairs, definitely. Peter counted them the entire way up. I wonder if it's 284 to the first observation area and then another 216 to the top of the tower. Maybe that's what Anne's thinking of?

That was SUCH a great day! It was my first time in Paris and it was magical. I cherish that weekend with you and Peter and Maya. So, when are you coming back?? xo
