Paris From Above

I took this photograph from the first level of la Tour Eiffel in March, 2007. I have not been up since. I've just never been willing to waste hours in line to ride up, and well I wasn't willing to walk up either.

May I recommend Yann Arthus-Bertrand's wonderful book, "Paris From Above".

Today I include a photograph guaranteed to make you all smile ( laugh out loud?). Who says you can't take a bad photo in Paris? My night photography skills of her are legendary. For the life of me I can't seem to get it right. I had some marginal ones from last January, but they were deleted in a computer snafu. Probably a blessing. This trip, I will go right back one night and try one more time. Stay tuned!

So wrong. I'm ashamed!

The key is a tripod. Get a tripod. I'm planning on bringing mine. Shall we have a night photography outing?

Ah, the metro bridge between Bir Hakeim and Passy ! Many memories there for me, as when living in Paris as a student, every day coming back from classes I would take the metro to the Passy stop there, then walk up away from the Seine to the circle, then walk down la rue Raynouard until reaching l'avenue du Colonel Bonnet, and then I was home... to my tiny chambre de bonne which had the Eiffel Tower framed in the window...

And wonder of wonders, I'd never tried to do this before just now, on Google Maps, using the street view, I was just able to "walk" all the way down la rue Raynouard, and then look up l'avenue de Colonel Bonnet and see the building where I had a little room...

So, thanks for the memories... guess you will be leaving soon ??? All packed ???

EIFFEL TOWER!
EIFFEL TOWER!!
EIFFEL TOWER!!!

I've been up twice. I didn't go up last time I was there. You need to dedicate half a day to that kind of excursion.

Your photos are always a treat. I don't care if the composition is off, the lighting is bad or if they are blurry - not that they ever are. Keep them coming!

I almost forget to respond to Owen - I'm wandering through that Google Paris map quite often. Maybe I'll run into you sometime!

Summer is not the time to visit la Tour Eiffel. How many cameras do you carry with you?

Starman,
I take my Canon Rebel, with a 50mm lens for low light and I keep the 10-200mm lens on it .

A tripod it is. I hope to gather my dearest friends at the base of la Tour EIffel and may we all have the grandest time trying to get the shot of our lifetime!! I can't wait!!!
