Paris Rouge XXVI- Bar Américain ?
Publish PostCall me silly, but when in Paris, the last place I want to go is a "bar américain"! I've not been to Mondrian, but maybe I'll have a look on my next trip. I'll let you know just how "américain" it really is! Regardless, I really like their black awning and red umbrellas! :)

I can relate to your thinking on this, V ~ I guess curiosity would get the better of me at some time. Those umbrellas are spectacular against the black awning ~ parfait!
Well I might admit than when I'm in the US I also do not care much for French restaurants and patisseries ...
Shell,
Stay tuned.
Laurent,
That's funny. We agree then!
Pretty but me, I would prefer Bar Français
Exhausted and starving, I settled for what I thought would be an easy and familiar meal at one of these so-called American places. If what I got was an example of an American burger and fries, I'd be stick-thin.
I do love the look of this place, though. Black and red are always in fashion. And I like the color of the neon, too.
I don't Mondrian was American, but I love his art.
ET SUzy,
I agree. The burgers can wait till I get home!
Starman,
LOL!
But at least you'd be in Paris while visiting this one!!!
TheChieftess has a valid point!!
I know this place, V—but have never had anything here but a (very French) kir. Ironically, perhaps, the only place I'll eat a burger here in NYC is at a French-run place in Brooklyn (it's called Bar Tabac, and the burgers are the best! Do love this rouge et noir image.
I believe a 'bar american' means one that serves cocktails; the French didn't drink mixed drinks so a place that served them had a different name than just bar. Still, I have yet to venture in.
Love the red! I've never been here, but I wouldn't hesitate to go in, especially as Rue de Seine is a great people-watching location. And I agree with Wren about the mixed drink designation. It's not like it's called McMondrian!
WEll OK!!! Now I"ll go and have a nice Jack Daniels with soda and think I"m home. But......no hamburger half cooked! :)
Hmmm, McMondrian...has a nice ring to it!!! Maybe it'll catch on!!!
McMondrian, better that than the real thing that is defiling le Louvre for Pete's sake!
Paris cafes are very colorful. I don't care much what they serve so long as I can drink a little wine at a little table outside and watch the girls go by... ;-)
The Mondrian is a fun place and not the least bit 'americain' though they do serve fancy cocktails. I use to pass it daily when I stayed at La Lousiane down the street..
Did you visit our Mondrian here in Los Angeles??
Bar Americain means they serve cocktails, something which is not standard in French bars
