le Monde

Last summer we wandered around an antiques fair at Saint Sulpice. This gentleman had just taken a seat outside of a booth selling old books and newspapers. He was reading what could have been a vintage or current le Monde. I love how men in Paris don a jacket for no reason at all. A little extra effort that I appreciate. I guess I've seen about as many tee shirts and baseball caps as I care to!

Where did you get the idea for this?

It would sound so much better to say this in French but how very cool, Virginia. :)

I miss those markets.

I would be looking through those books on the back shelf by now and no doubt would have bought one or two.

I agree, he would't look nearly as good without the jacket.
Tee's on men don't do it for me any more!

And is that a name badge attached to his jacket? Perhaps he was playing hooky from a seminar... however he came to be there, I'm glad, as he makes a fine subject for you, V!

You know SHell, I hadn't noticed the badge. I don't think the vendors wore them though.

Roses,
I love your comments and am so glad my photos bring back good memories!

Ginnie,
I know! Bet mon français is worse than yours!

Earl,
Don't know what you mean. Explainez ! :)

I agree--what a difference a suit jacket makes, as well as the absence of the ubiquitous ball cap so popular in N.America in particular.

I also like the new photo of yourself that you're using for your icon (is that what it's called?)

Just kidding. I emailed you about Le Monde yesterday.

Very nice!!! Did you meet him after all???

I hate wearing a jacket, at least in the summer, but I admit they do look nice.

This is a lovely portrait, VJ. My back would ache fairly quickly if I sat ihn that awkward position and with no back support. Yes, I agree abbout the jacket. I like a bare sweater beneath too.

I'm with you, V—somehow it makes a difference. (I hardly ever take cabs in Paris, but the last time I did, the driver was wearing a shirt, tie, and jacket. I was suitably impressed.)

louciao,
Merci, mon ami Mark took this photo.

Chieftess,
Well no I didn't, a shame. Wish I had visited with him. Guess i thought he was interested in his paper.

What a dapper man! I'm with you (and the others); nothing wrong with throwing on a jacket instead of wearing just a t-shirt. And don't get me started about sloppy jeans on guys. Delightful photo. As is your new profile photo!

A beautiful shot. I so admire his upright position. Wish I sat like that instead of flopped over...
