Wishful Thinking

Alas, another trip to Paris and I've still not managed to get INSIDE the exquisite Opéra Garnier.  It seems I'm destined to spend my time on the outside looking in!

Many thanks to reader Maria Isabel for this fascinating link!

It's good to keep dreaming about doing a few special things, so you have something to look forward to for a future trip. L'Opéra Garnier would be a good place to keep fantasizing about... Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)

The inside is exquisite and I have stood in this very room. We will put it on the list as I would truly enjoy a chance to photograph the ceiling in the performance hall again... amazing.

This is a great introduction to the opera for those of us who have not been this close. Merci!

Is their stage door at the back you can sneak through?

I guess that your next stay has to last! Your famous "list" gets longer and longer, despite all you have already captured! Now, I feel that your outside photo is already well representing, imagining, the beauty of the place! :-)

Everything is GRAND about this building. The foyer, the stairs, le plafond by Chagall.

There's newly open super modern restaurant built in the gallery on the NE side with curved glass facade. Fantastic design without damaging an inch of a monumental building.

Worth looking forward.

Natalie, oh just you wait. I have photos ( from outside of course) of that beautiful new resto!

Peter, yes, the list goes on and on and on. Now I've add the little cafe at the Madeleine that you feature on your blog today!

Geni, I even resorted to shooting the gift shop through the glass!

It is absolutely fabulous!!! I went there on my 30th birthday to the ballet with two other solitary travelers I met at the youth hostel I was staying at...dinner later on the left bank...walking over to the left bank, we found ourselves on a street where there were women in every door...paying a lot more attention to the guy in our small group...turns out we were walking through the red light district!!!

Grisaille à l'extérieur, or et lumières à l'intérieur, c'est magique.

Think that it gives you the hope to visit something new during your next trip!

I've been inside to the gift shop but not on a tour --- After seeing this photo and reading the comments, I'm adding it to my list as well.

Join the club. I've only taken a peek inside. It's still on my list though.

Don't feel bad, ma chère—hardly anyone gets inside! (But I sure do love your picture.)

Moi, I've only been inside but not to a show! Maybe this summer when my family and I visit our friends in Paris!
Bonne journee, V de B!

Keep trying...it took us several attempts to finally tour the inside one day when the ballet was not practicing! Well worth the effort. I so enjoy your blog and thank you for the music site that I am also now using in my blog. Our first adventure to Paris was 1992 and like you, I fell in love and continue to return often...we arrive again on April 3rd and have 3 glorious weeks to enjoy Paris!! Thanks for your efforts.
