I've been designing my newest weekly planner calendars on Blurb this week. I"ve already published my PTML color and now I'm almost finished with my black and white one. I found this shot of Daniel Buren's Les Deux Plateaux at the Palais Royal. Taken last January on a rainy day, quelle surprise, I still find them graphic and fun to photograph. You either love them or you hate them. I've grown quite attached.

Paris je t'aime
I fell in love with Paris in March 2007. It was as the French say, le coup de foudre : love at first sight. As a result of that trip, my photography took another direction. Since that time I have pursued a career of sorts in photography and dreamed of returning to the City of Light. November 2008 found me strolling the streets of Paris once again. My first visit I was so overwhelmed with the incredible beauty of the city, I photographed it as a "tourist". In 2008 I returned and I looked at the city with more of a photographer's eye. I wanted to capture the unique, the small details, and oh yes - the people! This blog was started as a photo diary of that trip, but I have been most fortunate to return to the city j'adore 15 times since. Each time I leave, I wipe a tear and start planning my list for the next trip. Paris may well be a moveable feast, but I think it's best savored in person! Someone told me that once you have been to Paris, you will leave a piece of your heart. I left mine right there, but I brought home some wonderful memories. It is my pleasure to share them with you.

Don't particularly care for them, especially so close to the elegant Palais Royal. Tourists seem to enjoy them more than the Parisians, and you often see them (or their kids) posing for pictures while standing on one of the columns. So they serve at least one purpose ;-) I remember reading a few years ago that "les colonnes" had been poorly installed back in the 1980s. The city of Paris has since then spent millions trying to stop (rain) water from leaking under the courtyard. Flip, flop, clip, clapote. French taxpayers' money at work... They look like a group of elephants are missing doing their stunts for the traveling circus...
Most french people don't like them, and so do I.M. Buren is a destroyer of classic places, he made same thing in Lyon.
This being said, I like the rainy mood here..
I like this artwork. Great choice to go with black and white. Very striking.
Virginia when my girl friend visited a few weeks ago and we went to Palais Royal she was in the "love category" just like me, they are quite fun especially when children are playing on them and having fun!!

I quite like them too Virginia, they remind me of slices of the hard 'rock candy' that you buy at the seaside in the UK. Wonder were they red and white stripes, and I always love rainy day images. Hope you have a great weekend.

The wet, shiny scene is lovely in B&W and brings back fond memories of the first time I saw them on a cold, rainy day in June ...
It would be fun to photograph some female French models posing on those..... just sayin'

I am in the "like them" camp but they spend more time behind yellow tape and barricades in a state of repair than not.
So glad that the great masters of past centuries created sustainable artwork, dare I say "permanent"? What are we doing wrong?
the rain is a bonus, they remind me of monochrome versions of those peppermint after dinner suckers
Ah rainy Paris and reflections too! Of course this qualifies. The music player adds such a nice touch too. :)
Your photograph, of course, is nicely composed, and I might like seeing these things as part of a temporary exhibition, but after a few months I would gladly volunteer to help carry them out of the space.

I must be the odd-man-out, I 'like' them, though I don't consider them "art".
Every time I´ve been there I found the place full of children playing. It got me thinking they must like this place.

A perfect Paris noir et blanc pour un calendrier en noir et blanc! I am moving veeeeery slowly from the "hate" to the "love" camp.
And the only thing that could have made yesterday's post any better is if the tour de macarons was all caramel au beurre salé!
Virginia, the pictures in Planner 2012 are superb! I like them being seasonal in tune with the months.
