Les Détails

Since I first visited Paris, I've been fascinated by the lacy details of la Tour Eiffel.  I try and find new ways to capture them each time I return.  If you want to read a fascinating account of la tour's history, pick up Jill Jonnes' book Eiffel's Tower. I was fortunate to meet her in Paris and hear her talk about her book.  You can read about that evening here.

One never tires of looking at the Eiffel Tower, Virginia. I read Jill's book last spring and loved it. So much detail. I admire Monsieur Eiffel even more than before now that I know what he had to go through to build la Vieille Dame. Loved reading about the other famous guests at the 1889 World Fair: Buffalo Bill and Annie Oakley among others. So cool you met Jill. I bet she had many more stories to tell. Bon weekend! Hi Virginia,

Looking up at the Eiffel Tower it is an awesome sight, and what a great photo you have shared.
I will look at trying to find a copy of Jill Jonnes book.

La Torre Eiffel offre una infinità di particolari e di situazioni tali da richiedere un impegno costante a chi li volesse cogliere.
La Torre Eiffel, da sola, merita un viaggio a Parigi.

When you see it in such detail like this Virginia you really appreciate the intricate patterns and shapes that make up the whole structure, I don't think I've really noticed that before. Really enjoyed.

This is brilliant both from engineering and art perspectives, isn't it?
I also like a lot the spheres in the header pic.
God bless you!

Blogger just ate my comments!
Is that pure sunlight or a photographer's magic creating that golden tone on La Tour? Really nice details.

I have just discovered that standing and viewing my computer screen from that perspective gives so much more depth to your banner photo. I can appreciate the fountain so much better and even the couple standing to the left come into clearer focus.

I wonder if those who wanted it removed, still feel that way?

The ones who wanted it removed are long gone. Thank God it is still here for all of us to enjoy Monsieur Eiffel's "chef d'oeuvre". Virginia, this is a gorgeous photo.

Is it sacriledge to say that the detail is better than the whole? She is a challenge to capture uniquely, I agree.

I have booked a studio close to JdL for May 2012. Now to find like-minded bloggers who might be around at that time. Perhaps on the way to the London Olympics.

It seems we all agree that we never tire of her. I would never , ever visit Paris without paying her a visit. I can still remember the first time I stood under her and looked up. Awestruck.

Harriet, no it must be the light because there was no magic on this one, unlike many others I post! :)

Julie, She's a challenge I relish. I'm always hoping I'll catch a glimpse that no one else has. I"m a dreamer for sure.

When I lived there, I never went unless some American friends were visiting. Now I can't imagine having such a cavalier attitude about the ET. What a beautiful capture of the details, V!
