100 French Strangers - Yet Another Friendly Waiter

French Stranger #77

One a hot July day, this cheerful waiter served me lunch and as I watched, he greeted other patrons  outside with a smile.  About a block from Place des Vosges,  if memory serves.   I stopped by again,  late one afternoon for wine on the street again.  He took very good care of me.  Who says French waiters are snooty???

To see more of my photographs of my Paris waiters, visit My French Life.  My article "Waiting in Paris" was featured recently.

Certainly not me. I have only had one snooty waiter in Paris and too many to count in other cities. Great b/w shot, V.

Three trips to Paris, 30+ meals, only 2 snooty waiters (and one I am sure was an just an act)! I truly believe that if you are nice, polite and respectful ... you will be treated well. And, since you are so nice, Virginia, all the waiters are friendly! Very nice portrait!

I agree with M, if you are polite and friendly, it is reciprocated, honestly I was expecting everyone in Paris to be rude and bad mannered (from what I was told before my first visit) but really didn't come across any snootiness at all.Excellent shot of non snooty waiter Virginia.

He has a very welcoming smile which I am sure translates into generous tips!

In my experience, most waiters are professional, in Paris and in the rest of the country. This is an exceptionally smiling face, though. Waiters are often rushed and do not always take the time to stop by and joke around with customers. That's too bad. They often have a wonderful sense of humor. The cliche of the snooty Parisian waiter is so enduring that even I, as a French person, immediately assumed this picture was taken in Southern France ;-) Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)

I don't think I've ever seen an over-weight French waiter.

Another wonderful portrait—it's a gift, V. Have to say that 99% of the time I'm beyond impressed by Parisian waiters. And they're not even putting on the charm to get a better tip!

You have a handsome portrait here. His smile seems genuine, and he looks like smiling happens often in his days.
