Paris Rouge XIII - Bèbè Chic!

Dressed like a mini Parisian model. This may be one of my favorite shots of the whole trip!

Photographer's Dilemma: "They" say when your camera is OFF, you should leave it set on Automatic in the eventuality that you need to move quickly to catch a shot. The afternoon this was taken it was very late and getting dark. I turned around as this petite jeune fille was scampering away from her mommy. I didn't want automatic because then I would get the horrible pop up flash. I was left fumbling in low light with my manual settings while trying to pull my glove off with my teeth, all the while running behind her! This was my best shot but terribly underexposed. I did what I could in the editing process, but I'm well aware of the noise that resulted. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

* I'm pleased to share that Linda Donahue, editor of parisiensalon.com has chosen another of my Paris street portraits for a recent article. Click here to see it!

Best pictures are sometimes the ones you were not prepared to take. I agree this one is among them and I like it a lot.
By the way , I always wondered if you ask the people their authorization for posting their pictures on the web ?

Oooh, love the banner shot AND your kiddie shot today!

I leave my camera on Program. That way it's automatic without the flash! Ready for anything! Except running after subjects. That is your specialty!! ;-)

I love it .. to me this IS capturing the moment ... and even if the pic is not perfect - in photographic terms - who cares!? Lovely, lovely shot!!!
Just found you through Sydney Eye.

I'm no expert on the difference between technically correct photos and the others, but fiddle-dee-dee, I don't care. :) This is captivating, V. I love her and I love the raw, spontaneous quality of your photo. {And congrats on yet another feature from Linda, yay!!}

Don't fret over the technicalities of this shot, Virginia. What you captured was the spontaneity, and that's what makes this a delightful shot!

Maya,
P doesn't work well for me. They are always too dark. Maybe I'll go to the camera store and let them have a look.

Laurent,
Well I always think if they saw me taking the photo and didn't object it's ok. With children, I usually don't put their faces if the parent is unaware that I've taken it. In Paris, I guess I'm not as careful. Now that photo Linda Donahue used on Parisien Salon...well those ladies may come after me! HA

Mary,
We were waiting on the bus by la Tour Eiffel/Quai Branley. I had just walked to the corner to shoot the ET between the apt . buildings, turned around and there she was! :)

Thanks Shell, Gena and Louis! I like it too despite the noise.

I agree with Shell Sherree:I don't care about the technical parts: it's a wonderful shot!
This blog is a treat!

Noise? Fabulous photo!

I'm with Shell too. Besides, technically perfect and totally spontaneous rarely go together. Love the way you caught her in mid skip. I never ever use flash.
I have one camera that has "with flash" as its default mode, and you have to change it every time you turn it on, and another that will stay in "w/o flash" mode from one use to the next. Guess which one I use the most.

This is a great shot. Thank you for coming back to my blog Virginia. You came and left a message last August on my post on Kangaroos – do you remember? I lived in the 9th arrondissement of Paris (which stretches from the Opera to the bottom of the Sacré Coeur) and since you visited my blog last August I did go back to Paris late October early November. I had a few posts on France since then - one the 11th November in Paris and seeing Sarkozy and Merkel (http://avagabonde.blogspot.com/2009/12/historical-armistice-day-11-november-in.html) Am pleased you stopped by again.
