Wednesday on the Left Bank

St. Sulpice

Galerie des Gobelins

The Bird Feeder - Palais Royal

This morning we gave ourselves a break and slept in. As we walked across the gardens of the Palais Royal, we saw that the light snow we had overnight was still on the ground there. The gentleman feeding the birds did not shoo me off today when I took his photo although he did turn his head. We were off then to my old "stomping grounds", Place Monge and rue Mouffetard where we met Mary's Parisian friend Anne for lunch. I had the most divine cassoulet of potatoes and ham I've ever tasted. Following lunch we walked to the Galerie des Gobelins for an exhibition of Louis XV tapistries. Amazing. We followed this with a trip to a patisserie and bought some delightful sweets. At Anne's apartment we were able to chat with her parents and have tea!! Very full and a bit tired, we walked up Mouffetard and stopped a few times to shop. Around the Pantheon and down to Luxembourg gardens we went but had to stop for wine at Saint Sulpice to gain our strength! We ended the evening with dinner at a hip little cafe and met the cutest couple from Sydney! Bonsoir!

I absolutely ADORE the bird feeder! It's a true work of art. I wish I had your bravery in taking photos of strangers.

Whenever I have been in France I am continually hearing a familiar accent. We sydneysiders know all the hip little joints. Rue Mouffetard is one of my favourites, too. Currently looking around there for an apt for Sept 2010.

Your photos make me want to hop on a plane to Paris, nearly empty coffers or not. Sounds, and looks, like you had the perfect day in Paris.

«Louis» immediately recognized the tower of St. Sulpice, St. Sulpice playing a starring role in "The DaVinci Code". Nearby is the fabulous pâtiesserie Gèrard Mulot.

«Louis» missed Galerie des Gobelins when he lived in Paris.. ;-(

I am very intrigued by the first and second photos...the first because of the lighting, and I love the perspective of the second one!!!

So busy this morning, but had to stop by here and get my fix. Thinking about your pictures and stories will get me through my day. Thanks, V!

I wish I could walk and walk like you guys. Ah well, "it's my own damned fault to quote" Jimmy Buffet.

Well we did have our first sun today but alas, Mary G. and I both had a little stomach bug last night and spent most of the day looking at sun from the apt. We will be ready to go tomorrow for our last day!

All three of these are striking, each in different way - color, mood and composition.
