This is the third photo in what has become a little Toter Series ( and I didn't even try to translate that into French.) The first some of you will remember, were the Toliette Toters, then we had the Mattress Toter.
As Mary and I sat sipping our wine after a very long afternoon at Père Lachaise, these three guys paraded right in front of us. There was a Métro just down the street. SURELY they didn't try that!

En Français, on dit "récup" d'après le mot "récupération". Beaucoup de gens se meublent de cette façon, et c'est bien ainsi.
Well, they sure look like they're having a fine time! No doubt there were a few glasses of wine or beer involved before and/or after. Any occasion serves to boire un coup entre amis!
Getting down the Metro steps would be a challenge. Getting up them would be impossible!
I can imagine what you would have had to say about our method of transporting our washer and dryer through the streets of Clermont Ferrand (old city) before we had a car... Can I say diablo?
Well, how else are you to get new things home?
With the reflections of the lamps, they could have put the sofa down, made themselves comfy, and looked right at home in your photo. :~} BTW, I think I would say that "ils trimballent ce fauteuil" (trimballer quelque chose or se trimballer avec quelque chose means to lug something around.)
Moving in the middle of the night? Hmmmmmm!!!
There was probably a particular street corner where they wanted to sit and watch the girls go by.
Don't ask me to explain what the toilet toters had in mind!
You could have taken this picture in my neighborhood a few weeks ago when one of my neighbors got a new couch and gave us her old one to save for my daughter's new apartment in May. They carried it down the stairs of her house, down the street, and up the 24 stairs to our house.
