Hôtel du Nord
June, 2010
Well our last night in Paris this trip, we begged our "landlord" Janeen to go with us and pick the spot. She didn't miss a beat......Hôtel du Nord. Made famous in the 1930's by Marcel Carné's cinema by the same name, it is located across the street from Canal St. Martin. It was a fine choice. We loved the décor, the hip local crowd, the candle lit tables, and the meal was wonderful. Believe it or not, I left my camera in the room, so I'm depending on Mary to furnish us with a few photos of the interior to share with you later.
As a side note, we were seated at a table for six and then politely asked to move to a smaller table. We were delighted to have the management bring us champagne for our inconvenience! That works!

That looks perfect. Duly noted for my next trip to Paris. xx
Free champagne are the magic words for me, V, and it looks and sounds lovely. Duly noted. ;)
Paris is good for wandering and finding good food. We didn't have quite the same experience in Madrid. Also, Marseille had amazing food!
If I ever get there ...
Much warmer in June than in January, n'est-ce pas? I love the lady in the hat. Thanks for the restaurant tip.
Are you sure this photo is from June 2010? Given the lady's hat, I might have thought the 30's. I guess that makes it timeless. Nicely done.
That was one of my favorite meals EVER...will send interior shots soon.
Guess I'll have to put it on my list for March. Everyone's right—it does look like a moment out of time. And so perfect in b&w!
Great recommendation, V! The photo really takes it back in time... oh, and free champagne works for me too

The quais along Canal St. Martin have become 'the' place to be seen for 'hip' Parisians.
Thanks for the tip! I shall store it somewhere. And lucky you..getting champagne!
Thank you for your comments. I"m pleased that you noted the timeless quality. The lady with the hat was a nice touch I think. :)

Ah, great atmosphere in this photo!
I would have bet good money this photo was from the 1930's. I really, really like it, Virg. Next time I go to Paris, this is on the list. (Marcel Carne -- Les Enfants du Paradis. One of my favorite films.)
Is this photo up for sale?
Adore this shot! And of course it had to be in Black and White. Bravo!
