There is so much to photograph at the beautiful Cimitière Pére-Lachaise. This is one of my favorite photographs although I'm not sure what it is. It could of course be a mausoleum, but looks more like a small chapel. We must await Mary Gilbert's or another Paris expert's verdict on this one.
Today, I really couldn't decide between the color and the monochrome. Votre choix

I can see why - both are beautiful! Merci for sharing the two of them. I'll be anxious to see what others think.
I love seeing these photos together! And yes, yet another beautiful spot there...
Actually, Virginia, in this case, seeing them side by side, I like the color one better...which is not always the case for me. The colors of the "chapel" are so warm.
And BTW, Judy's Dennis is sitting here off to my left as I write this. :)
This is a tough call .. I am not sure I actually have a preference between the two ... the monochrome is more mysterious ... sort of made me think of Hanzel and Gretel
Yes, tough choice. Both versions are wonderful. Before digital, I'd go to Pere Lachaise armed with lots o' film, and usually most of it was b&w. In this case, I have to agree with Ginnie—the soft colors are so lovely.
Love the color one...though I avoid cimetieres anywhere...
And black cats crossing the road
:)
Most definitely the color photo. The colors are so soft and subtle that they give the picture a depth that the monochrome lacks.
For me, the color version is the keeper. Two things draw me to this picture -- the shapes, and the soft colors. And it's the colors that draw me to the shapes.
Tous le temps, je préfèr la couleur.
Je préfèr la couleur aussi!

I usually prefer color, but the B&W has a bit of mystery to it...
You could show me just about anything from Père Lachaise, in color or b&w, and I would be drooling in no time... the place is magic. One can point a camera almost anywhere in there and get a good shot, it is one of the most photogenic cemeteries in France imho. Hope all is well in 'bama...
PS Just posted a couple of pix of gentleman I believe you know...
Mon ami Owen,
I love your visits. You are so right, one can take gorgeous photos here without even trying! Ill come right over to see monsieur! :)

so Virginia...you have now resorted to posting more Pere -Lachaise photos to get me to respond?! IT WORKED!!! I believe that the structure in question is a private family mausoleum AND chapel. Many of the private mausoleums had chapels. Mary and I visited an incredible private mausoleum in Passy that had a subterranean chapel, complete with Victorian kneeling chairs, etc. Spring Grove has a huge private family mausoleum/chapel that was modeled after Saint Chapelle. Your photos continue to amaze me! Can't wait to finally meet you soon...bring photos!!!
Phil,
Well it's about time I flushed you out!!! Merci for the expert opinion on this beautiful place. Feel free to drop in any time. I'll be up there mid May for Mar's joyeux anniversaire, and I fully expect the grand tour avec toi of Spring Grove. And you'd need not worry, oh I'll bring my camera . :)

I like the harmony of the colors, but the b/w is moody.
I have loads of Pére-Lachaise photos as well and will have to post them one day soon...
Sorry I missed all the fun yesterday - but at lunch today with Phil, he mentioned the post. I think that must have been near the Lalique gravesite - Phil's right it's a family mausoleum and chapel...can't wait for your visit!

They are both really nice and I normally like black and white for cemetery photos but this color one looks best to me.
