100 French Strangers - Crêpes While You Wait

French Stranger #59

Oh how can I break this to you ......I've never had a crêpe in Paris! I'm so ashamed. I should have had one of his, but as I recall, I'd just polished off un éclair au chocolat et le thé á la maison de mon amie Anne!

When I was in Paris I liked to get the gaufres from the street vendors who also made crepes. Crepes are more fun to watch being made, but I like the gaufres to eat.

I must admit that one of the first things I did when I got to Paris was eat a nutella crepe. I've had the same thing here but for some reason they taste so much better in Paris. Strange ;)

I have issues with crepes that are absolutely and thoroughly not their fault at all. {A long and not particularly interesting story.} If anything gets me past those issues, it will be eating them in Paris, I'm sure.

No crêpes over here ... More like the rice type as I send you some thoughts from Singapour. Great shot anyway but doesnt make me miss the city for now as we are wearing tshirts and shorts with 30 degres ! See you !

OK, you've never had a crêpe, but please tell me you've had Croque Monsieur!!

Lovely photo, so much going on.

Ciao

Elenora,
Oui and they are delicious on a cold winter's day in Paris.

Laurent,
How nice of you to say hello from sunny, warm Singapore. What a lovely holiday you must be having. I'll just bet it's still cold in Paris!

Shell,
That's ok, you just keep munching macarons!

Mr. E,
Never heard of gaufres!

Debs,
I made sure to get the Nutella in the photograph!

Yvi,
Can you make them? :)

Mmmmmm... Cold & wet & filthy weather here -- a crepe sucre would really hit the spot...

I make crepes at home all the time, Nutella is my second love! But I am sure they taste better in Paris.

Don't feel bad, Virginia! I've never had a crepe in Paris, either—and I lived there for years. I'll try to make up for it next time, but meanwhile my kids have had their quota and mine, I'm sure.

«Louis» recommends you head STRAIGHT to the airport and fly over to Paris for the SPECIFIC reason of having a crêpe with Nutella! Sheesh!

«Louis» and another member of his parish fixed ham and asparagus crêpes on Candlemas at St. Mark's.

I believe I visited Paris before they invented crepes .. ;-)

OMG Virginia, a Nutella and banana crepe is the FIRST thing I get when I hit the streets of Paris. I even had one at midnight after the PDP picnic last year. A trip to Heaven only costs 6 euros.

Had I come across that image in my walk around town I would have stopped to buy some for sure.

France was where I discovered Nutella for the first time. That on French bread = Amazing!

Slight change of subject...

V...you are responsible for my making regular runs to our European bakery just up the road, and indulging in quiche or more recently, the yummy ham and cheese croissant!!! They have a little outdoor seating area so I can pretend that I'm eating my quiche/croissant and having my latte, in gay Pareee!!! With Daisy by my side!!! (unfortunately, they don't have crepes)

No need to feel badly, I've never had one in Paris, either.

I usually have too many crepes in Paris. :) I see that he has the makings of one of my favorites Nutella & banana. If we ate everything that tasted good in Paris we would be in big trouble. :)

Virginia said...

WEll I was wondering what all the bananas were for. I knew it wasn't for peanut butter and banana sandwiches! You Nutella folks know it all!

James,
What?? You're not supposed to eat everything that tastes good in Paris?? I"m going to pretend like I didn't hear that.

Chieftess,
I'm glad I've been a culinary inspiration.

Louis,
I'm all for that idea!

Gaufres are waffles. When I was in Paris, which was over 30 years ago, most of the street stands that sold crepes also had gaufres. They had a few sugar crystals in the batter. They were just more substantial and easier to eat than the crepes, at least that was my thinking at the time.

I am not normally a crepe eater, but gave them a try when in Paris..absolutely delicious, but we had a savoury one.. Rue du Montparnasse.. full of them from Breton!

Oh I know exactly where this is, and I think I bought a crepe here! :-)
