Sunday Church Series - Look Up

The vaulted ceiling of Église Saint-Étienne du-Mont. Completed in 1624, it holds the shrine of Sainte Geneviève. Although her remains were burned and thrown in the Seine during the French Revolution, the slab that her remains had rested upon is now enshrined  in gold lattice. Located next to the Panthéon, it is a must see.

Some of the most beauty things I looked upon while in Paris were found when looking straight up. Gorgeous.

The 'slap' that her remains had rested on....

Define slap, si'l vous plait.

My mother's middle name was Genevieve - a bit unusual for a little first generation Italian girl. I wondered where it came from. It wasn't until I was walking in Luxembourg Gardens that I saw the Statue of St Genevieve and found out she was the patron saint of Paris. I still don't know how my mother got that middle name.

I've recently read about that church but missed it on my trip last year. Next time :)

Thank you for showing me a detail that I missed during my visits to this church.
