Prèmiere Neige à Paris

Snow dusted steps to the Seine
janvier, 2010

Our Laurent at Daily Photo in Paris  left a comment that yesterday Paris had its first snowfall.  I was surprised to learn that snow in Paris is rather rare, so imagine my delight when we arrived last January to find the remains of a previous snowfall on the city.  Most of you will remember that during the night the "Paris Photography Gods" made me very happy.  We awoke the next morning to a glorious snowfall.  This photo was taken on the day of our arrival. It was very, very cold that day.  Did we stop racing around the city? Of course not!  The adrenalin rush cannot be denied!!!

Thanks for the link Virginia. And yes it's rather rare to have snow in Paris except last year when we really had a lot and maybe this year too as we've had some in November !!! No more snow now but freeeeezzzzing temperatures !

Lovely shot, although a trifle confronting for an Australian. What are your plans for 2011, VJ? You return to Paris in the Spring this time?

And the rarity makes it even more beautiful. The first time I encountered snow in Paris, I was very young and very poor and walking around in sling-back shoes with no stockings! (My boss bought me a new pair of shoes and gave me a raise.) This image is just lovely, V.

We've aready had three snowfalls in November now, which is indeed extremely unusual... many locals are saying it's not normal weather at all... And it is supposed to snow even more tomorrow !

A new ice age coming... global warming has been reversed apparently...

A few trips ago, it snowed on the morning of my departure. At 5 am it was slushy and not pretty at all, but by the time I was riding the shuttle at CDG, it was coming down in pretty flakes...left me wishing I'd had one more day....as always!

I have already gotten the weather report (first-hand) for my arrival on Thursday and we should definitely see some snow. Now to find the proper shoes for the trip... no sling backs or pumps, hummm? I am thinking that the snow boots I wore on the glacier in Argentina might be just the ticket! Don't think that I will be confused with "a French girl" comme ça!

We will not slow down for the weather!

Genie

I remember that snowfall in January. It was glorious seeing the city blanketed in snow, but it was so cold! Ten months later, I'm back in Paris, but only for another week. I'm half hoping for more than a dusting before I head home to Georgia.

Snow may be rare in Paris, but we've had many a long wait on our plane back to the US because of snow delays.
