Les Papilles

As is the case many times, I don't take note of the place, just the cheerful jaune, rouge, et orange façade! Les Papilles!

Next time you pass by, go for lunch. Les Papilles is one of our favorite restaurants in Paris. We go every visit.
It is a wine shop/restaurant. They serve only one menu and it is extraordinary. Bertrand will pick a wine from the collection for you or you may select your own. Following an appetizer, a large tureen of soup is brought to your table. In a large bowl there is a mound of ingredients for the soup. You ladle in what you want and enjoy a rich wonderful taste. Then the main course is brought in. It may be slow cooked lamb or beef in a sauce with vegetables. This we can never quite finish as every serving is voluminous. A cheese and compote is served nest, followed by a dessert. It is not inexpensive to be sure, but well worth the time spent. Delicious.
Les Papilles, 30 rue Gay-Lessac, 5th, Metro:Luxembourg (south stairs), bus #21 and $27.

It reminds me of a small restaurant in which we ate 10 years ago. So lovely!

The way Richard Ewin described it is exactly as I remember it. We failed to stop in this past April while we were in the neighborhood. Makes me wish we had. It's a cozy and pleasant place to pass some time among the locals.
