Le Zinc

What says Paris more than the gleaming zinc bars in Paris.

I have had many good experiences at the zinc bars in Paris cafés. I've used them to change film in my cameras in cold weather. For the small price of an espresso I get warm hands, a bathroom, new film in my camera, and usually a chance to practice my French. The zinc is a friendly place and people seem wiling to engage in light conversation. Roll up to the bar, order an espress or une noisette (this usually raises an eyebrow and gets you into a conversation) which is an espresso with just a little milk in it. It's a Paris experience you shouldn't miss!

You will need to educate me about zinc bars. That is a part of Parisian life I don't know.

Maintenant, c'est plutôt dans les cafés chics ou branchés qu'on trouve ce genre de décor.
