Le Clos Montmartre

November 2008

Recently my Daily Photo in Paris friend Laurent, posted some very nice photos from Fête des Vendanges in Paris. This celebration held in Montmartre, reminded me that last November I had taken some photographs of this, the only remaining vineyard in Paris, le Clos Montmartre. Although Peter and Laurent have given the wine produced here mixed reviews, I'm sure I've had worse right here at home! Since the profits benefit local charities, let's hope that they do a brisk business. Thanks Laurent for sharing the photos and information about this festival and the vineyard!

There's also a vineyard in the Parc Bercy. Just a thought for your next trip to Paris!

Thank Virginia for the link to my blog. Your picture are nice and colors are exactly like that these days in Paris.

About Anne's comment, in the Parc de Bercy it is not what we can call a real vineyard. They only planted a few vine but they do not make wine out of it as they do in Montmartre. It is only to remember that this place in Bercy was the center for the wine business of the whole Paris area in the 19th century.

I was there in December and it was closed. I wanted to go this time but thought the Festival was the week before. The site I had checked gave the wrong date.
I'm still heading up that way with my friend when she gets here later in the week.
Having fun in Paris.

De rien, Laurent! Thanks for the extra info as well.

Karen,
I think it's usually closed, but I could be wrong. I took these photos through the fence in November and when we went by in July it was closed then as well.

Anne,
Thanks for letting me know about a new park I've not visited!

There used to be quite a wine industry in Paris before the fields were taken over by buildings.

Virginia, I was jealously wondering how you got into the Montmartre vineyard until I scrolled down and saw that you had taken these great shots through the fence! It's my understanding that the general public is never allowed in... I've tried but not succeeded, even during the vendange.

But oh Laurent, they do make wine from the Bercy vines, even if it wasn't a vineyard in another era. I have tasted it too! And according to last week's paper, there are also vineyards producing wine in Belleville and one other place I'm forgetting that. But the Montmartre group produces the most.
