Guess Where We Went Today?

Well we 'd waited long enough, so we struck out before noon for la tour Eiffel! We have to pass through the street market on our way to the Metro, so we loaded up with wonderful sandwiches and Cokes and off we went. We found la tour a very busy place with lots and lots of tourists and school groups. We had a picnic lunch on the Champs de Mars and Eva and Davis played on the playground nearby. After taking a load of photos we walked across the bridge to the carrousel and had two rides. Nearby was another lovely playground and Eva and Davis made friends with some cute kids from London who are moving back to Paris in June. We stayed quite a while here chatting with their mother and then walked up the hill to the Cafe de l'Homme for a glass of wine and some glacé on the terrace with the marvelous view of la tour . After a long, crowded, warm, Metro ride home, we made a stop by the market for some groceries, and headed for home around six. It's 10:10 pm and the sun is just now setting. Bonsoir!

Mumsie,
The first picture literally made me tear up! I miss them so terribly! Heard from Melissa today through email and it sounds like y'all are having a really good time. Your pictures are amazing as always!

Ms. Jen

P.S. Do I need to say anything more about the picture of Davis on the carousel? The saying that a picture is worth a thousand words. Well, the three french words on that airplane make that picture a thousand times more meaningful! How appropriate!

At last, I'm with you! Have had a very hectic program since my return from Sweden early this week ... and the weekend program is also quite full! I really hope to meet you all next week ... and I will bring the champagne bottle! Have you checked on your "list" what we should start with together?

I have gone through all your latest posts and can see that you have had a good and interesting start, despite some rain and getting lost etc... ! :-)

Virginia, once again you have hit a home run with all of these photos! You have truly found your calling.

Eva and Davis certainly have a great sense of fashion -- or should I be giving those accolades to Melissa. They are adorable.

I don't know if you are "directing" their poses or if they just have an instinct for the making of beautiful pictures. What wonderful memories are in the making!

Wow, all great shots! Both of the kiddies and famous icon!

I can echo the earlier comments, but I'll add that I especially like that last shot of the Eiffel Tower.

Your grandchildren will also enjoy le Jardin d'Acclimitation in the Bois de Boulogne. Take the metro line 1 to Les Sablons and follow the signs. If it's a warm day, take their swim suits as there is a sprinkler play area.

Jen, Glad you liked the photos. Yes, we got a BIG chuckle out of the airplane with Le Petit Prince on the side. Perfect and he has remained on this throne all week I might add.:)

Peter,
Oh I have a list my friend. Just you wait! ha I'll email you about my Mereidith Mullins tour.

Anne, Thanks for that tip. We have enjoyed the parks and gardens so much and will add your idea as well.

Harriet,
Melissa guides but they have their own fashion ideas. The leopard shirt Davis has on is from Zara. He won't take it off! Zara is a great place for kid's clothes. Very cute and inexpensive.

How nice to be spending this time with your daughter and grandchildren. The pace of young children helps me to slow down enough to really see and experience the present moment. I hope it is helping you savor your experiences. These are wonderful happy photos. Even the red flowers are smiling for us.

The children sure are enjoying there time. The queue to the tower looks much like it did when we were there a year ago. Maybe it is the same line? ;) I just can't place your vantage point from your black and white photo.

I like the fact the kids were more interested in the playgrounds - forget that pile of metal! Lol!

You've got some more great images here, I love the last one. Did you go up to the top?

DL, I"m pretty sure it's the same line! ha. We didn't even think about standing in it to see ANYTHING!

I was at Trocadero looking towards the ET up on the hill.

Talk about jealously!!!!!! There is this longing to go back there! I am ceratinly enjoying following your travels. I do remember when we were at Luxemborg Gardens, and I rode the carousel that you had to catch rings with a baton (as you had a picture of Eva doing). My feet almost touched the groud on that carousel pony, but it was fun! Have you been to that pedestrian street near the Eiffel Tower? I cant remember the name, but anyhow, they have a wondeful chocolate shop, (or they did) and I remember my dad gave me about 5 Euros to get some chocolate. I went in the shop, and picked up a big bar of chocolate, that looked like milk chocolate to me(my favortie kind). When I went to pay at the counter, the man pointed to a small bar of writing on the wrapper. He put the bar aside, then picked one up from the counter, and gave it to me. I checked out and went outside. I later found out that the writing on the wrapper meant "no sugar". I'm very thankful for that man. Gosh, it was some good chocolate too. -Rip =)

Oh Rip, this brings back memories of when you were in my class and you and your family went to France at the end of the school year after I went in March of that same year. You emailed me every day, and I loved hearing your take on Paris/France. Please keep writing. I'd love to share my adventures with you, and you can tell my readers all about what you and your family did here in May of 2007 as well!

I love your photos. They are often pics of the same subject matter I've seen before and yet you make it seem new, fresh and exciting. They're just wonderful!

Y'all are going to be spoiled by the time you leave.

Perhaps Rip is referring to the pedestrian street, rue Cler?

Oh it sure looks like you all are having a great time!!

It's all too much. Now people are too easy for you. I see the third camera eye kicking in on perspective especially on the second one, an angle I genuinely haven't seen before from that of Paris statues.

Once again, capturing personality! And that second photo with the statue and the top of la Tour Eiffel... tres magnifique!
