Déjeuner à le Rubis

This is small café offers only two plats at lunch. Nothing fancy. I love the zinc bar as well.

Café et un livre

I always love capturing Parisians enjoying a book whether it's in the Métro, on a park bench,  or of course, a Paris café.

Who among us can deny a love affair with every Paris café chaise? I love them in every color.

Les oiseaux amicaux

I was having a nice glass of wine at Ma Bourgogne, Place des Vosges, I was alone for long. These little friends hopped over for a few pieces of bread. I think they have played this game a time or two.

Café Nemours

I've spent a lot of time here. We always have lunch at least once. The quiche is light and fluffy. On other days, we flop down in an outside chair and have a glass of wine and watch the world go by at Place Colette, while munching the ridiculously awful nibbles. We dream of the day Nemours offers cacahuètes!

Le Rubis

A few years ago while enjoying a leisurely day alone in Paris, I passed by Le Rubis and remembered a fine boeuf bourguignon I'd enjoyed there once. I decided to try it again. I was shown a door at the end of the bar and discovered a tiny ( of course), winding (of course) stairway. At the top I walked through what appeared to be a make shift kitchen but it could have been the one and only. I found a small dining room lined with tables. I squeezed onto a banquette, shed my coat, camera, bag and tried not to look like a harried tourist. I fooled not a soul. The sweet, overworked waitress informed me that I had to read the menu off the chalkboard on the wall. So the whole process went in reverse. I could hardly read it and so with our limited use of each other's language, I decided on the "peeg" with lentils. It turned out to be what we would call ham. Very pink and tender with a sea of lentils topped with a pat of butter. This is what David Leibowitz called "earthy French food" in his review. It's worth the read.

Le Rubis is the type of cafe you want to run up on in Paris. The same couple is always behind the bar and the food is always honest and hearty.

Bleu, rouge, bleu, rouge...

Some Parisian cafés have a bit more curb appeal than others. This one was loaded.

P'tit Déj.

This colorful café in Butte aux Cailles is offering a pretty sweet deal for petit déjeuner. We should have stopped!

Rainy Night in Paris...again

I could probably fill an entire month with rain in Paris photos. We embrace it and accept it as a part of the city we love.
