Macarons de Mobile

It's no secret how I feel about a well made macaron ( please don't confuse these with the coconut macaroon!). Well today, I am thrilled to introduce you to macarons de Mobile.......Alabama!!! Mais oui, mon chère amie Genie brought me a box of the most divine homemade macarons that have passed my lips. Genie, by the way, is a new blog reader, and she came through B'ham last week, and we spent a wonderful evening together. Ladurée move over, Genie has mastered the art! We will both be in Paris together shortly, and we'll sample some together and perhaps decide on new flavors for her and daughter Holly to try. I'm hoping that the violette ones will be as wonderful as I imagine! :)

BTW, in case you're interested, my very favorite is the pistache with an Italian buttercream/nutella center. Ohhh....I'm in heaven!

Looks yummy.
Since the post is concerning delicious food, the question came to my mind: you love France so much, so have you ever tried to cook with the help of famous Julia Child's cook book abundant with recipes of exquisite French cuisine?

I can't begin to tell you how impressed I am! Being the macaron connoisseur that you are, dear V, that's high praise so they must indeed be delectable. And such a sweet thing of Genie & Holly to do, baking them especially for you!

Buttercream and nutella? Holy macarons! That is amazing high praise. Do they ship them? :D

I can see that we have a common taste when it comes to the preferred macaron, the pistache! Maybe soon a common macaron session with you and Genie?

I'm sure they're as good as they look, based on what you have written!

A new kind of addiction :-)
Harmless, this one.

You are a lucky woman! I made the mistake of looking at this mouth-watering photo before breakfast. Yum! Now the usual hard-boiled egg is quickly losing any appeal. (Pistache is my fave too, V!)

Merci tout le monde!

Virginia and I did not eat too many as we were talking too fast and too much! Although I did not prepare them for my brief trip to Birmingham, my favorite made (so far) are rosemary macarons with lemon curd or lemon buttercream. I am looking forward to sampling many flavors in Paris in about a week!

Peter, most definitely!

Au revoir, Mobile.... bonjour, Paris!!

And may I add that I have had a few in the frig for a week and they are still delicieux. In fact, one coming up with my café.

Peter, Genie and i tried to figure out a way to bring you some of your favorite pistache but we might just have to buy you a few when we arrive!

Stunning photo! How lucky you are to have a new friend who makes macarons. (I've looked at recipes and I'm not sure I'd have the patience to tackle them.) Have fun discovering new flavors in Paris!

I haven't tackled macarons yet but they are on my list....is Genie available for consultation???

And the two of you in Paris together....with Peter....what fun! I wish I could also be there...Since that is not possible this time, I'll be with you "in spirit"!

Now, I feel I need to go out to get a few Mac's rite now!

Genie needs to open her own shop to share her homemade mac's with the resta us.

Btw, you always seem to do your best work around food/sweets.

Catherine... harmless ??? Few things in this world are more dangerous... (imho)
:-)

Hi Virginia,
Funny, we were on the same wavelength yesterday, as the Grenouille and I were sitting in a tea place, Dalloyau, just by the Jardin du Luxembourg having tea and nibbling macarons... yum !

All sorts of delicious flavors... may just have to meet up with Peter and Catherine and do some more experimentation... the ones from Mulot are also quite worth a try...
:-)

Virginia said...

Owen,
Yes, we are kindred spirits. An Mulot's macarons were the first ones I ever tasted! :)

You should branch out and come to Zurich! The ones in Paris and Bordeaux are amazing, but the ones in Zurich are out of this world -- our favorite treat ever! Only here they're "Luxemburgerli" ;)

Which -- I think -- is German for "tiny hamburgers from Luxembourg" ;)
