La neige

It snowed last week in Paris, just a week after I came home. I'll admit being a bit miffed with l'homme de la météo! I do still have a small collection of photos of la neige from January 2010 to remind me of  how even more beautiful Paris is after a snowfall.

Les souvenirs

Still enjoying reminiscing about our trip janvier, 2010. We arrived to bitter cold, but the next morning awoke to Paris in the snow! As Mary and I walked through the Palais Royal to the Métro, we discovered something even more special. Since my first trip to Paris, les Colonnes de Buren had always been walled off for restoration. Amazingly, overnight, the walls were down! That's when I knew for certain that the Parisian Photography Gods really did love me. I have been in love with M. Buren's colonnes ever since.

En Seine

Today I share another image from our trip to Paris in January, 2010.  It was bitter cold this day but loved seeing Paris with a cover of snow for the first time.

La Neige - les colonnes de Buren

Here at home, we have had an unexpected snowfall with extremely cold temps.  It reminded me of the unexpected snowfall in Paris, January, 2010.  That was a  magical morning for me.  The Buren Columns had been enclosed for renovation for several years and magically that morning, the walls had come down and I saw them for the first time ......with snow.  Another Paris Moment I shall not forget.

Hiver à Paris

This marks the first January that I've not trekked off to Paris in four years. Flying standby, I'm always searching the best chances of winning an empty seat, so I've made the best of the cold, damp, gray days in Paris, year after year, always keeping in mind that BEING in Paris was the prize, not the weather.  January, 2010, we woke up to Paris under a light blanket of snow. Somehow it made the freezing temps and gray skies worth every minute.  Today, looking from Place des Vosges to the Hôtel de Sully, which houses an extensive bookstore.

La chaise

This time last January we arrived to find Paris under a melting blanket of snow. It had started raining and as Peter and I made our way to Tuileries, it was quickly turning to slush. I took a few shots from the perimeter. This trip, the Parisian Snow Gods were not smiling on me.

Une promenade dans la neige

Jardin du Palais Royal

Snow was in the forecast for Paris today. I've been lucky enough once,  in January 2010.  The clipped trees cooperated nicely.

Neige du matin

A January snowfall overnight a few years ago didn't deter this runner, the walker or the pigeons at the Jardin du Palais Royal.

Serendipity

What are the chances that it would snow in Paris over the weekend AND that Belle Inspiration Magazine would publish a group of my Paris in the Snow photos at the same time?  To celebrate, I decided to share one of the photographs they featured, the courtyard of The American Cathedral in Paris during a delightful snowfall in January 2010.  If you want to see some nice photographs from this weekend's snow, slide on over to Peter's Paris and have a look at his!

Merci to Belle Inspiration's editor Mimi Bleu for sending along this peek at my photos!

Venez vous asseoir ici avec moi

Pardon, but I have a few more photos from last January to share.  As most of you know, it was such  a magical time for me to be in Paris. That wonderful first day to awake to la neige!!  Even better to experience it in one of my most favorite spots......jardin du Palais Royal.  J'adore!!!

Prèmiere Neige à Paris

Snow dusted steps to the Seine
janvier, 2010

Our Laurent at Daily Photo in Paris  left a comment that yesterday Paris had its first snowfall.  I was surprised to learn that snow in Paris is rather rare, so imagine my delight when we arrived last January to find the remains of a previous snowfall on the city.  Most of you will remember that during the night the "Paris Photography Gods" made me very happy.  We awoke the next morning to a glorious snowfall.  This photo was taken on the day of our arrival. It was very, very cold that day.  Did we stop racing around the city? Of course not!  The adrenalin rush cannot be denied!!!

Closed Due to Snow

As you know by now, I stayed within a few blocks of the Palais Royal on my last visit. The day after we arrived we were blessed with snow. On our way to the Palais Royal Metro stop, we passed Nemours. I have some very nice memories of champagne sipped here last summer. This day, the chairs were tipped and everyone had gone inside to warm up. The trees? Well all along the galleries of the Palais Royal and here as well, fresh green trees with no decorations were still up from Christmas. Perfect for the snow don't you think??

Oh happy day! Our dear Jilly that blogs from Menton AND Monte Carlo everyday is celebrating her Third Blog Birthday. Best wishes for many, many more years of your great photography from your lovely area, Jilly. My wish is that we will meet in person one day soon, and I can see your lovely part of France for myself! And now, it's time for Peter to pop the cork! :)

Blanc

Palais Royal Gardens

Could anything be more beautiful? The Parisian photography gods were truly smiling on me this day! I am forever grateful.

I'm thrilled to announce that I am a cowinner of Richard Nahem's Marais Photo Contest on his great site: Eye Prefer Paris. I win a copy of Murder in the Marais by Cara Black!
