Christmas carrousel at the Hôtel de Ville is always a favorite for the children and photographers!

L'Hotel de Ville avec palmiers

Afternoon light on the Hôtel de Ville, Paris. Since 1357, it's been the headquarters for the city of Paris. I have no idea how the potted palms were able to withstand November's  chilly weather.

Travel Tip: Always check the website as there are often wonderful art/photography exhibits here.

Incroyable!

The giant bubble makers are usually always in the plaza in front of th Hôtel de Ville.  I often get so absorbed in capturing the bubbles, I don't notice the children who are delighted as well.

À la découverte du passé

These scenes from old Paris were used to shield the construction going on across from the Hôtel de Ville. I could have stood there forever watching interesting people stop and interact with the images.

Outside the Hôtel de Ville, there are always street artists of all kinds.

L'exposition

One of the many things about November is Paris is that it's always Photo Paris month. The Hôtel de Ville never disappoints. In 2013, they featured the rights of humanity in powerful photographs.

L'homme de la photographie

These vintage Paris photographs covered construction walls across the plaza at Hôtel de Ville last month. I was not the only photographer who stood and waited, and waited, and waited till just the right subject walked into our lens.

A Rainy Day in Paris

Last November, these Parisians, and I'm sure a few tourists, waited patiently in the cold and rain. outside the Hôtel de Ville.   It was worth the wait to view the fabulous Brassai exhibit during Paris Photo. No secret why I love Paris in November.

Les Bulles

While by the Hôtel de Ville last Wednesday, I walked up on a young man making these incredible bubbles using two sticks and some string. Talk about a photo op!

Sourires

These two charming young ladies were enjoying the wonderful photography exhibit in front of the Hôtel de Ville this morning last November.  Visiting Paris from I can't remember where in Europe, they seemed as happy as I was to be there!

Toujours la pluie

The French love their art and I am always amazed that they will queue up for hours.  Last November as we left the fabulous Brassaï exhibit at the Hôtel de Ville, we saw this line waiting in the rain.  This particular umbrella, says it all in Paris!

Les Jardins

It seems no matter the season, the city of Paris finds something unusual for the plaza in front of the gorgeous Hôtel de Ville.  In June 2010, the whole place was turned into raised bed gardens of all kinds

Les Petits Patineurs

Granted this photograph is not well composed, but I think it gives a true flavor of the skating rink at the Hôtel de Ville.  The smallest were scooting all over as best the could,  holding onto the wooden walls or pushing the cute and colorful little scooters!  The city had kindly provided an area just for the little ones so they could get around without being run over by the more accomplished skaters.

For my Birmingham AL area readers, I'll be teaching From Snapshots to Photographs again starting the end of this month at Samford University. Please join us!
