If you are lucky enough to catch sunset on the rooftop of Galeries Lafayette, you are lucky enough. I've had this as my screen saver for while. I share this loveliness with you.
In the winter months, you are rewarded for braving the cold in Paris by being able to witness a Paris sunset from atop the rooftop of Galeries Layfayette. (It closes around 6, so in the warmer months the sun doesn't set for a very long time after that.) We took full advantage in November, and as I was madly snapping photos along with everyone else that afternoon, I turned and spotted the sign with the photographers silhouetted.
The rooftop ofGaleries Lafayetteis the perfect spot to watch the sunset in Paris. In the winter months you can capture it all and it's a photo frenzy with cameras, phones, and Ipads! I like to think it a little perk for braving Paris in the colder months. In the spring and summer, the rooftop closes well before sunset. Quelle dommage.
You will probably never see a Paris sunrise taken with my Canon, but I have a few sunsets that I especially love. This one with La Conciergerie in the distance is a praticular favorite of mine.
Some of us traipse up to the rooftop of Galeries Lafayette armed with large or small cameras to capture sunset in Paris with this spectacular view. Others pull out their iPad.
Not bad for 698 years old! La Conciergerieis presently undergoing renovations, so if you are traveling to Paris this year, check its status if you're interested in going inside.
As we walked down from Montmartre after a day of cold and rain, we were greeted by this beautiful sunset. The promise of fair weather!! Just seeing this again, still takes my breath. C'est Paris!
I am a former elementary school teacher, a full-time photographer, lover of all things French ( whose French is slowly improving), obsessive Paris traveler, enthusiastic church and community volunteer, and grandmother to 5 delightful grandchildren.
I fell in love with Paris in March 2007. It was as the French say, le coup de foudre : love at first sight. As a result of that trip, my photography took another direction. Since that time I have pursued a career of sorts in photography and dreamed of returning to the City of Light. November 2008 found me strolling the streets of Paris once again. My first visit I was so overwhelmed with the incredible beauty of the city, I photographed it as a "tourist". In 2008 I returned and I looked at the city with more of a photographer's eye. I wanted to capture the unique, the small details, and oh yes - the people! This blog was started as a photo diary of that trip, but I have been most fortunate to return to the city j'adore 15 times since. Each time I leave, I wipe a tear and start planning my list for the next trip. Paris may well be a moveable feast, but I think it's best savored in person! Someone told me that once you have been to Paris, you will leave a piece of your heart. I left mine right there, but I brought home some wonderful memories. It is my pleasure to share them with you.
