In 2009, Davis was driving a moro at the Jardin d'Acclimatation. Now, he's gotten his driver's permit! Time flies.

Été au Bois - Le petit jardin

One of the most charming areas of the Jardin d'Acclimatation, is the sweet little garden, which comes with its own charming épouvantail!

Today we revisit the delightful Jardin d'Acclimatation in the Bois de Bologne. Davis found plenty of Paris motor to ride in the amusement park.

Été au Bois

If you've never visited Paris with children then more than likely you have never experienced le Jardin d'Acclimatation! Located in the Bois de Bologne, it's a delightful place to spend the day with les enfants. It combines a charming little amusement park, boat rides, gardens, petting zoo and a playground with many activities for all ages. This climbing structure looked like la Tour Eiffel to us. Try and calculate how high it goes. The French have a more lenient approach to playgrounds!

Un pique-nique

While we took the little train around le Jardin d'Acclimatation at the Bois de Boulogne, we spotted this group enjoying the beautiful day in true Parisian fashion, in a circle.

Jardin d'acclimatation

If you've not visited Paris with children, then I'm fairly certain you've never taken this little boat ride through the Jardin d'acclimatation at the Bois de Boulogne.  In the summer of 2009, we spent a lovely day with our Birmingham friends, the Wilsons.  This shady ride ended with a gentle spray of water, a welcome relief from the warm summer day in Paris.

Paris avec les enfants

If you are planning a trip to Paris with children, le Jardin d'Acclimatation should be at the top of your list.  It has the charm of a small amusement park with rides, a playground, small petting zoo, gardens and not to mention the deal little boat ride!  This day we were  joined by our Birmingham friends, the Wilsons and a good time was had by all. Notice the height of that rope Tour Eiffel!  That's Eva on the far right with Katherine, Ethan in the front and Davis on his way up on the left.

Mademoiselle Li's

Artist Hippolyte Romain created this lovely little tearoom, Mademoiselle Li, in the Jardin d'Acclimation in the Bois de Boulogne.  As the Jardin's artisitic director, his delightful illustrations are found all over the park, and on the outside walls of the masion de thé.  We had lots of kiddos with us the day we visited so the tearoom was not on the list.  Maybe I'll have another chance one day.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting blogger Janey ( Thick and Thin Air) and husband Tom as the stopped in Birmingham on their way through B"ham.  Janey loves Paris too and we met through this blog.  We had a great time sharing travel stories but of course it wasn't long enough. I hope they will make this a regular stop from now on and we can continue....

Le chic épouvantail

At le Jardin d'Acclimatation even the scarecrow has that je ne sais quoi!  If you or anyone you know is traveling to Paris with children, this should be at the top of your list.  Located in the Bois de Boulogne, it is a delightful place to spend the day. Plenty to see and do for children and adults.  We had a delightful day there.

Le Tour de France began yesterday in Passage du Gois.  Sadly this lovely old vélos won't be a contender.

Pouvez-Vous le Lire?

Well to be honest, I really can't either. Oh I can pick out some words and perhaps get a sense of what it says, but I have to admit, I've not made much progress even with frequent travels to Paris over the last 3 years. It 's not from a lack of desire or numerous books on how to speak French better and in a record number of days. I have a number of excuses. Want to hear them?
1. Most people in Paris speak English and it's just easier to let them.
2. My friends speak French better than I do, so it's easier to let them.
3. My southern accent plus my poor French pronunciation skills are a deadly combination, and I'm frankly embarassed to even try most of the time.

Hopefully I've turned a corner of sorts. Yesterday was my first lesson with my new French tutor Mme. Dupree. I think she's just what I need. She's not going to let me slide by with my "southern French" and she's going to converse with me in French and insist that I do so as well.
Wish me bonne chance! I'll keep you posted.

Today's photographs are from a delightful day last summer spent at the Jardin d'Acclimatation in the Bois de Bologne. I shared some photos of the children last summer right here. It's a great little amusement park and the perfect spot to take children when you travel to Paris. The mural and all the signage were done by the same artist. I would love to purchase some prints if anyone knows a source.

Guess Where We Went Today? - Jardin d'Acclimatation

Davis found many motorcycle rides to enjoy!

We found a way to beat the crowds today. For those of you traveling to Paris with children this is the primo place to go. Forget Euro Disney, Jardin d'Acclimation is a 49 acre park in the northern part of the Bois de Boulogne. There is a delightful small train ride through the park, a house of mirrors, zoo animals, junior sized rides and we ended our day with a lovely boat ride down a mill stirred lagoon. Besides that, the gardens there are spectacular. We particularly loved the vegetable and herb garden. Check their link for all the other activities offered from trampolines, to miniature golf. We did all we could do, trust me!

Our friends from Birmingham joined us today so we had a grand day together. Did I mention how tired I am tonight????

I apologize if this post is rather long, but we have many family members and friends that want to see what we do everyday.

This delightful mural is tucked away in the gardens. All through the park there are signs featuring similar drawings. Their marketing director needs to find a way to sell these as prints. They could make some Euros.

The Eiffel Tower shaped climbing "thing".
( Notice how high you can climb. This country must not be lawsuit happy! HA)

All over Paris in every garden we've visited, we've seen groups of adults/children enjoying a picnic just like this one.

In the gardens

This was one ride all the adults enjoyed as much as the kiddos.

The perfect ending to our day here.
